A Christmas Painting

Hi everyone, Mou here today getting into the Holiday mood!

Today it's snowing out here and I have a little painting tutorial to celebrate the season. Let me show you the steps I took for the above painting so you can create one too.

For this painting, I used the following supplies:

Faber-Castell

Watercolor pencil Goldfaber Aqua tin of 48 (#114648) - 108,109, 115, 183, 273

Deluxe Waterbrush (#770306)

PITT Artist Pens S tip - BLACK

Gelatos® color - Iced Currant

Other - Watercolor paper, pencil

Start with a light pencil sketch of a floral planter with Holiday elements like pine cones, berries, etc.

Color the elements with Goldfaber Aqua watercolor pencils as shown.

Blend the colors with a brush dipped in water or use the Deluxe waterbrush . Let dry.

After the colors have dried completely, give the individual elements in the composition some definition with S-tip Black PITT Artist pen.

Next add more colors with the Goldfaber Aqua watercolor pencils to create visual depth and dimension.

Rub some Gelatos color Iced Currant, a gorgeous metallic red, onto a craft mat or palette and dilute the pigment with water. Dip your brush into it and use it as ink as you hand-letter the word 'joy' under the painting.

Add some touches of the Iced Currant Gelatos on the berries and the planter to bring some added shin to the painting as a finishing touch.

Christmas Doodles & How To Use Them In Your Journal!

Hey there! I have another tutorial for you! This time (by VERY popular demand) are some Christmas & winter doodles to help you set up your bujo for the holiday season!

I kept them very simple so they can be more of an accent in your already stunning journals! My advice here would be not to overthink it - just have fun! These simple shapes can transform quickly into fun seasonal favorites in under 5 minutes!

Any doodle or shape can be applied to your journal if you think about how the functionality can be utilized. For instance, candy canes make EXCELLENT water or daily trackers! The same with a Christmas tree - just color in a bulb for each day!

Thanksgiving Table Place Cards

Easy to make place cards that will add a little extra something to your dinner table this holiday season!

Materials:

• Cardstock Paper (cut into 2x4 inch rectangles)
• Faber Castell Watercolor Paint Connector
• PITT Artist Brush Pen

 

1. Pick your colors and swipe some onto the cardstock using your watercolor brush.

 

2. Once the watercolor is all dry use a PITT artist pen (brush tip or fine liner) to add names.

Gelato Watercolor Cornucopia

Holiday time is my favorite time, because there are so many fun and festive things you can do! Like this watercolor cornucopia made using gelatos and Pitt pens!

For this I used:

• Faber-Castell 2B pencil
• kneaded eraser
• Pitt artist pen XS
• Pitt artist pen white 1.5 fineliner
• watercolor paper
• paintbrush
• collapsible water cup

Gelatos in the colors:

• chocolate
• butterscotch
• lime
• pistachio
• green tea
• red cherry
• tangerine
• mango
• lemon

 

Start by sketching your work with the 2B pencil, then erase until the lines are very faint (that way you won't see them through the watercolor when it dries). Then on a palette, add a bit of the gelato and add some water until it becomes the consistency of watercolor paint! Use a mix of these to add color to your artwork, and add an outline and highlight using the Pitt pens!

 

 

Chelsea has a not-so-slight obsession with all things lettering. Watching lettering videos is what got her started, and you can usually find her posting videos using every art supply she can get her hands on. From brush pens to watercolor and everything in between!

Gelato Watercolor Pumpkin

Materials needed:

• Gelatos (Iced Chai, Iced Currant, Tangerine, Green Tea)
• Palette
• Watercolor Paper
• Water/ Water Jar
• Brush

1. Push the Gelatos each into their own well in the palette so that there is a decent amount transferred to the palette (do this for all colors).

 

2. Then you can either use a dropper or just the brush to drop some water in each of the wells and mix until you have the right consistency.

3. To paint your pumpkin:

• Start with the middle and use Tangerine to paint an oval, while it is still wet add in drops of Iced Currant and Iced Chai
• Repeat this step with the sides of the pumpkin making a present moon shape
• Use Green Tea to create leaves on top and on the bottom sides
• Use Iced Chai to create a stem and some vines as well as some ground under the pumpkin

 

*Optional Step: Add details or lettering with a PITT Artist Pen

Faber-Castell White Pens & Whimsical Leaves

Leaves are beginning to fall in our neighborhood, and that has me ready for all things Fall. One of my favorite creative activities is to paint watercolor leaves. However, when I came across the new Faber-Castell white pens I had an idea for some fun hand-drawn leaves. 

First I gathered up my supplies - different color cardstock (I went with traditional Fall colors, but this would be fun with any variety of colors), Pitt pens, a pencil, and scissors.

Next, using a pencil I sketched out simple leaf shapes. Don't worry about lots of detailed edges, just draw a variety of shapes and sizes. 

Then using my Pitt pens I drew the stem of the leaf and began adding fun details. I chose to draw whimsical details with circles, lines, and flourishes.

Lastly I cut out my leaves (trimming off my pencil sketch of the leaf outline) giving me a pretty collection of leaves perfect for scrapbooking, adding to a mixed media project, or even stringing up as a garland.

Handmade Holiday Ornament Trio with Gelatos & Holiday PITT Artist Pens

Hi everyone, Mou here with a tutorial to make handmade holiday ornaments using Gelatos colors and Holiday PITT pens! Let me list the supplies before I show you how to make these ornaments with basic tools and supplies.

Supplies:

• Iridescents (Comet, Mars, Odyssey, Satellite)
• Aqua Dolce
• Gold Champagne
• Mango
  

Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Textural Accents - Gel Medium

Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Holiday PITT Artist Pen set

Other - cardstock, thread, trimmer, scissors, pencil

Start by trimming 4x4 inches squares out of white cardstock, six pieces for each ornament.

Fold squares in halves. Draw a tree, a gift box and a house with pencil. Cut out with scissors.

Using the first piece as template, cut the other five pieces for each ornament design.

Cut about three pieces of thread or twine, each to 6 inches. 

With Gel Medium, attach the matching design pieces back to back. Before attaching the last piece, fold the thread in half and place between the previous and final piece to make a loop.

Color the tree ornament with Mango, Comet and Satellite Gelatos colors. Blend with water.

Once dry, make marks on the tree ornament with the green Holiday PITT pen.

Color the gift box ornament with Mars, Odyssey and Gold Champagne Gelatos colors.

Add details to the ornament with the red and gold PITT pens.

Color the house ornament with Odyssey and Aqua Dolce Gelatos.

Add details with the Gold and Black PITT pens.

Now, your ornaments are ready to decorate your tree or give as gifts.

How to Create Plaid Patterned Paper with Gelatos Plus 3 Projects

Diana Trout here today with a tutorial on making festive plaid patterned paper for some holiday paper crafting.

Here are the supplies you need to get crafting:

Gelatos
Pitt Pens (Bold or Stampers, I used grays, yellows and mint)
Mixed Media paper (about 100#) 8"x10" 
Glass Bead Glitter Gel
Punches, card base, ribbons
Ruler

Check the video below for more information.

Begin by using your ruler and Gelatos to create as parallel to the edge of the paper  as you can. The T-square ruler I use works to keep your drawn line parall, but you can just eyeball it:.look at the paper edge as you draw your line.  You'll be surprisied at how much straighter your line will be! Don't worry about wiggly lines, but do try to keep the lines parallel. 

Draw thick and thin lines to fill the paper. Rub the lines with either your finger, a sponge or a slightly dry baby wipe (I love the firm sponge that comes in the Gelatos pack).  Turn the paper vertically and draw in some intersecting lines. I suggest using a darker color for these lines such as Squid Ink. 


This is your background plaid. Your paper may look a little messy now but at the last step, it'll come together. I promise. Once you've smooshed the Gelatos into the paper, it won't come off and you'll be able to use Pitt Pens over top.


To complete the plaid pattern, use your ruler and Pitt Pens to draw straight, parallel lines. This step will pull your plaid together. Once again, use thick and thin lines by using the tip and side of the Pitt Pens. I used light colors and grays that were harmonizing.

Three Projects: 

1. Make a simple card by cutting a plaid triangle, a little trunk and a star. I added a sentiment and some twine.

See the photo at the top of this post for the examples of the next two projects.

2. Use punches, dies or scissors to create tags. Add a stamped or handwritten TO and FROM stamps and some Glass Bead Glitter Gel (sparkly!) to the edges of the tags. Thread with some ribbon. 

3.  Make a gift card holder. The internet is full of ideas on this project. I use a piece of paper, 5" x 4 1/4"

Hold the paper with the longer side at the top and bottom and score at 1 3/8" on each of the short sides and 3/4" from the bottom. Trim away some of the outside corners. Fold the scored sides in and glue. Fold the scored bottom up and glue. Cut a "V" shape or use a circle punch to add a finger hold to the top of the gift card holder.
