Inspired by a summer song

Is there a summer song that you hum and can't get out of your head? I have one that I grew up with - it's 'We're all going on a summer holiday', sung by Cliff Richard many many years ago. my inspiration of today's word art came from the lyrics of summer holiday.

Here are the materials I used:

Faber-Castell Pitt Artist Pen Soft Brush India ink pen, black

Faber-Castell Graphite pencil Goldfaber 1221 HB

Faber-Castell Connector paint box 24 colors + brush

Faber-Castell Water cup Clic&Go light green

Faber-Castell Kneadable Art Eraser, grey

Faber-Castell Goldfaber color pencils - Cobalt Turquoise 153, Dark Cadmium Orange 115

Other: watercolor paper trimmed to 9x6 inches

Start by sketching out the lyrics with pencil on watercolor paper. You can include only a few lines or the whole of your favorite song.

Go over the pencil lines with SB tip PITT pen in black. As I started lettering with the pen, I decided to make my letters bigger and did not want to include all the lines that I had written with pencil. Erase pencil lines.

Add any imagery you think suits the lyrics. I sketched a sun at the top and a line near the bottom as the horizon line of ocean.

Using Connector Paints, color in the sun and sea.

Add some details and outlines with Goldfaber color pencils to finish.

Saying Thanks to Teachers

Hi everyone! Mou here with a little piece for a favorite teacher. In this tutorial, we'll explore lettering with B-tip PITT pen, drawing with XS-tip PITT pen and coloring with Goldfaber Color Pencils.

To do this project, you'll need the following -

Faber-Castell Essential PITT Artist Pen SetFaber-Castell Goldfaber Color Pencils - Tin of 48

Faber-Castell GRIP 2001 Graphite pencil HB

Other - watercolor paper (trimmed to 9 x 6 inches)

Now, let me walk you through the steps.

On the watercolor paper, write 'You are my favorite teacher' as shown with a B-tip PITT Artist pen. If you need, write lightly with pencil first and then trace over it with the pen. erase pencil lines.

After finishing the lettering, draw some school icons under the text such as, pencil, eraser, sharpener, crayon, paper clip, etc. with pencil and then with the XS-tip PITT pen.

Color in the icons with Goldfaber Color pencils as shown.

Landscape with Goldfaber Pencils

Hi everyone, Mou Saha here with a landscape using Faber-Castell Creative Studio Goldfaber Aqua Watercolor and Color pencils. I really enjoy sketching outdoors whenever I get a chance. Where I live in New Jersey it’s pretty cold for a large part of the year but the landscapes here are breathtaking. There are old stone buildings, horse farms that stretch for acres as well as meadows with silo clusters with mountains in the horizon. What strikes me most about these landscapes are that they are ever-changing – I have driven by on misty autumn mornings, stopped by for fresh produce in summer afternoons – and every time I’m amazed by a different kind of beauty. Even if I can’t complete a painting on the spot, I try to at least begin the sketch. I take photos for reference so I can continue to work when I get back to my studio. I carry a sketch pad or a pack of watercolor papers, my Goldfaber Aqua Watercolor and Color pencils and a couple of filled water brushes with me in a tiny backpack. Today’s drawing was a result of one such adventure when I had to stop and capture the play of light around this old stone building. I finished the drawing later filling the landscape with elements from my own imagination.

Now let me walk you through the stages of my drawing.

I began with a light pencil sketch of the building and the big tree right behind it with my GRIP 2001 Graphite pencil on a 9x6 inches watercolor paper.

Next, I filled in colors using the Goldfaber Aqua Watercolor pencils.

I added details with CASTELL 9000 Graphite pencil Jumbo 8B and filled in the landscape with the watercolor pencils.

Using the Deluxe Waterbrush, I created a quick wash blending the watercolor layer.

After laying the initial color layer down, I worked on adding details, texture, depth, highlights and shadows with the Goldfaber Color pencils.

Happy New Year Word Art!

Happy New Year everyone! It's a special time when we get to reset and reboot again, at least partially, in our lives. I wanted to create a piece that captured my dreamy new-beginning feeling with Goldfaber Color Pencils and PITT Artist pens. Let me show you how I did it.

Supplies:

Faber-Castell Creative Studio Color pencil Goldfaber metal tin of 48 (#114748)

Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Essential PITT Artist Pens BLACK (#770075) - S, B tips

Other - white cardstock

With S-tip PITT Artist pen BLACK, hand-letter your message. My word inspiration came from the movie by the same name. Draw some stars around the word to frame it visually. You could also use a pencil lightly to sketch everything first and then trace with the PITT pen and erase your pencil lines.

Start coloring the negative space around the words and stars with Goldfaber color pencils. I started with the blues and grey.

Add colors to the mix that you see fit and keep filling the negative space.

Here's my piece so far. I like the cross-hatched textured look so I made sure to make my color pencil strokes prominent. If you like a more blended look, make softer marks and blend them together.

Give prominence to your hand-lettered word by adding a thin dark shadow with B-tip PITT Artist pen, Black to finish.

Hi everyone, Mou here with a handlettered and illustrated Halloween decor using Faber-Castell PITT Pens and Goldfaber color pencils!

To make this project, I am using the following:

'Hello Fall' Printable Collection of 30 Autumn-themed Images with Bonuses & Extras

Now, let's start coloring.

This is an image I drew myself. You could draw your own or choose one from this printable collection.

Start by coloring the pumpkins with Stampers Big Brush pen Scarlet Red 118.

Color the leaves with Crimson 134, Purple Violet 136, Dark Chrome Yellow 109, Green Gold 268, and Pale Geranium Lake 121 as shown.

Add a second layer of color to the pumpkins in alternate sections as shown using Orange Glaze 113.

Color as follows -

• the acorns with Green Gold 268 and Cold Grey IV 233
• the oval ring border with Magenta 133
• the witch and cat with Cold Grey IV 233
• the broom with Raw Umber 180
• the moon with Light Flesh 132

Of course, these are just my color choices. Feel free to choose your own favorites.

Start filling in the letters with Stamper's Big Brush pen Walnut Brown 177, adding variations with Black 199 and Cold Grey IV 233.

Now that you have finished coloring the main design, it's time to fill in softer colors to the negative spaces. For that, I am using the Goldfaber Color pencils. I am staying with the same color palette that I chose for my PITT Pens. For a soft look, add the colors with gentle pressure and blend into one another.

Finally, color around the entire piece with the Grey 273 Goldfaber color pencil to finish.

Fall leaf with watercolor pencils

Fall is finally here! It's time to celebrate by bringing out all of the fall colors again!

 

Today you'll be needing:

• Goldfaber Aqua Watercolor Pencils
• Pitt Artist Brush Pen in Raw Umber 180
• Watercolor paper
• Paintbrush
• Pencil
• Faber-Castell kneaded eraser

 

Start by using your pencil to sketch a maple leaf. Lightly erase the dark lines until they're barely visible.

Take your watercolor pencils and start coloring in the leaf.

Use a wet paintbrush and go over the colors to blend them all together.

Once dry, use the same colors to go over the edges to make them a bit darker.

Use a brown pencil to draw the veins of the leaf. Go over that with your paintbrush as well.

Now use your Pitt Artist pen to letter your quote!

Mixed Media Tin for hand lettering!

Hi friends! Chelsea here to show you how to make a beautiful hand lettered watercolor piece! 

 

The products we'll be using today come from the Faber-Castell mixed media tin. You'll also want some mixed media paper, and painters tape for the edges.

 

First things first, tape down the edges of your paper so you'll have a nice, clean border. Then start scribbling with your watercolor pencils! Here I'm using the light blue, dark blue, purple, and pink.

 

 

Next, take a wet paintbrush, and blend the colors together.

 

 

Once dry, peel off the tape, and grab your Pitt Artist  brush pen (I used Cold Grey VI 235), and letter whatever quote/phrase you'd like.

 

 

Now it's time to add the highlights! Take your white watercolor pencil, and add a small detail anywhere you'd naturally see light shine on the letters, to really make your letters pop.

Hand-Lettering Recipe Cards

Recipe cards have always been something special in our family. I have memories of being at my grandmother’s kitchen and seeing her pull out her recipe box and the many handwritten family recipes she kept. Now my mother has all her old recipe cards and has saved them for me to pass on to my children. A handwritten recipe is a treasure in itself, and I thought it would be nice to create some hand-drawn recipe cards to add even more sentiment.

I chose to make some summery strawberry recipe cards using Faber-Castell Pitt pens, Faber-Castell Goldfaber colored pencils, and 8.5 x 11 cardstock cut into 4 cards (4.25 x 5.5). Pitt pens are waterproof which is perfect for recipe cards, especially if you are messy in the kitchen like me! Goldfaber colored pencils have a wonderful variety of colors, are also waterproof, and do not smudge adding the perfect touch to your artwork.

Using Faber-Castell Pitt pens I drew a border of strawberries, flowers, and leaves on the front and back of the cards. Once my borders were in place using a straight edge I drew lines and section for the recipe.



Once my cards where all drawn I used Goldfaber colored pencils to begin coloring in the artwork with a light layer. The key to increasing vibrance with colored pencils is adding layers (not pressure). Next I went back over the artwork adding shading and more color giving the cards soft textured look.



After coloring each side front and back my cards are complete, and I have a sweet set of hand-drawn recipe cards ready for writing down some of my favorite summer recipes.
