Word Art with Iridescents Gelatos & White PITT Pen

Hi everyone, Mou here with a word art tutorial using a beautiful quote by the 13th century Persian poet, Rumi. In this tutorial, we'll explore what the Iridescents Gelatos colors look like on a dark surface and also some handlettering using the White Brush PITT pen.

To do this project, you'll need the following -

Faber-Castell Gelatos® Colors, Iridescents -15 Piece Set (#770175)

Faber-Castell India ink Pitt Artist Pen White set

Faber-Castell Collapsible Water cup (#770310)

Other - watercolor paper (trimmed to 9 x 6 inches), black paint

Now, let me walk you through the steps.

Apply a coat or two of black paint to the watercolor paper. Let dry.

Rub the Iridescent Gelatos colors on the paper as shown.

Blend the colors with water using the paint brush included in the Gelatos set.

Add another layer of colors with the Iridescent Gelatos. Blend with water. Splatter some Gelatos colors after diluting it with a wet brush. Let dry.

Write the quote with White PITT pen, brush tip.

TIP: If you make a mistake, just cover the area with more Gelatos colors and blend with a little bit of water. Let dry completely and go over it with your pen.

An Art Journal Page with Gelatos® Color IRIDESCENTS Mars

It's February and there are hearts everywhere. So, why not create an art journaling page about hearts? Hello there, Mou here today with an art journaling tutorial using the brand new Gelatos® color MARS from the IRIDESCENTS Set.

To make this page, you'll need:

Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Gelatos® Colors: Mars (IRIDESCENTS Set), Aqua Dolce, Banana, Chocolate, Earl Grey

Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Stamper's Big Brush Pen: BLACK

Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Textural Accents: Chalkboard Paint, Gesso

Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Collapsible Water Cup

Other: Watercolor paper, stamp, paint brush, pencil

Let's get started!

Rub Gelatos color Mars generously on the watercolor paper. Blend with water.

Add Gelatos colors Earl Grey and Chocolate to the page and blend with water. Paint some circles with the Gelatos colors as shown.

Make some marks with Gesso.

Add more colors to the page with Gelatos colors Aqua Dolce and Banana.

Add more marks with Chalkboard Paint.

Paint some circles with gesso as shown.

Draw a heart on the page and color around it to make it more prominent.

Ink up alphabet stamps with Stamper's Big Brush pen BLACK and stamp your journaling in and around the heart.

An Art Journal Page with Gelatos Color Fig

Hi everyone, Mou here today with an art journaling tutorial for you using the Gelatos® color Fig!

Fig is this beautiful mix of purple and grey and works really well with both warm and cool colors. Without further ado, let me show you how I used Fig in my art journaling page.

Let's start with the supplies I used:

Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Gelatos® colors: Fig, Banana, Blood Orange, Blueberry, Peach

Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Textural Accents: Chalkboard Paint, Gel Medium, Gesso

Faber-Castell Design Memory CraftStamper's Big Brush Pen: Black

Others: Mixed media paper, found papers, thread, sewing machine, chipboard letters, paint brush, stamps, pencil

Now, let me walk you through the steps.

Start by tearing found papers and attaching them to a mixed media paper base using Gel Medium. Once you have covered the whole surface, seal the papers with a top coat of gel medium. Let dry.

Rub Fig Gelatos on the surface.

Add more Gelatos colors and blend with Gesso.

Attach chipboard letters to spell out your word of choice. I used 'Yes' based on a hashtag I saw on Instagram. Machine stitch all over the page and stamp around randomly for some added visual texture.

Ink up alphabet stamps with Black Stamper's Big Brush pen to finish the message on your page.

With Chalkboard Paint, brush on a focal point. I chose florals. Feel free to draw your own favorite.

Make simple marks all around the focal point with pencil, Gesso, and Gelatos to finish.

'This Life' with Peach Gelatos®

Hi there, Mou here today wishing you a very happy new year! I have a tutorial for you using Gelatos® color Peach.

The Peach Gelatos® is a really versatile color. It is great for creating skin tones and background washes. But pair it with other pastels and/or more intense colors and metallics and you can open up a whole new world of possibilities as I explored in the above piece.

To make a similar piece, you'll need the following:

Gelatos®colors: Peach, Aqua Dolce, Banana, Blood Orange, Passion Fruit, Lime, Metallic Mint

Textural Accents: Gesso, Chalkboard Paint, Stencils 10 ct 101 Collection

Others: Mixed Media paper, Paint brushes, Stamp

Let me walk you through my steps.

Start by generously rubbing Peach Gelatos on the mixed media paper to create a base wash.

Start adding layers of colors with other Gelatos colors. Blend them with water.

Keep adding more Gelatos colors, blending some without water and some with water. Add more Peach to the mix.

Tie the colors in with Chalkboard Paint and Gesso.

Use  stencils to pencil in patterns. Color around the patterns.

Free hand a butterfly or another motif with a paint brush and chalkboard paint to create a focal point for your piece. Make marks with Peach Gelatos.

Stamp a few words.

The Not-So-Scary Halloween Owl

Hi everyone, Mou from Color Happy Creations here today with a tutorial to create a not-too-scary Halloween Owl!

Recently, I came across this fun Halloween quote on Pinterest:

"A Great Big Owl in a great big tree, On a night so dark, you could hardly see, Was watching the lights in the deep ravine, Where the witches danced on Halloween."                                                                                                                                                                         

It inspired me to alter this chipboard owl I found in the children's craft section at Michaels using our Gelatos® color of the week, Cinnamon. Let me show you the steps.

Use Faber-Castell® Design Memory Craft® Gel Medium to attach the parts to the owl as shown.

Prime the slick surface of the owl with Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Gesso to receive colors better.

Color the ears, wings and belly with Cinnamon Gelatos®. Blend colors with a slightly wet brush.

Color around the eyes and the feet with Caramel Gelatos®.

Color the body and below the ears black using Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Chalkboard Paint.

Sketch some details on the owl with pencil. Color around the eyes with Gelatos® Iced Coffee.

Accentuate the details with a Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft  PITT® Artist pen.

Lay the leaf pattern stencil from the Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft 102 Stencil Collection on the owl's belly and apply Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Whipped Spackle with a palette knife. Remove stencil immediately and let the medium dry on the owl.

Add some white specks to the owl's body with Gesso and a paint brush.

Autumn Leaves

This week's Gelatos® color of the week is Red Cherry.  I chose a project with an Autumn theme which works perfectly with this bright, fun color.

I started by decoupaging a canvas panel with a music sheet and Gel Medium. Next, I applied Red Cherry and Blood Orange Gelatos to it and used Gel Medium to move it around my background. I ended up layering up a few layers this way so that the colors would become intense.

 

Next I added a layer of Glaze. I love how glossy the glaze makes the paper! I used a rubber stamp to make an impression in it while it was still wet.  It's a really neat technique.  I ended up covering it but I at least wanted to show you another fun way to use the Glaze.

 

For the leaves, I used my die-cut machine to cut a leaf shape out of black cardstock .  You can also draw the leaf and cut it out of cardstock if you don't have a die-cut machine. Next, I  mixed together some Whipped Spackle and Gold Texture Luxe™. Mixing these creates a different color and texture while retaining it's metallic shine.  After they were mixed, I added some Gold Champagne Gelatos to half of it. The gold  really bumped up the metallic look and darkened it as well. I used a pencil to etch some vein lines before the mixture dried.

I did the same technique using Whipped Spackle, Copper Texture Luxe, and Iced Chai Gelatos to it for the other leaf.

 

The bookplate I used was originally silver, and I wanted it to be copper, so I used a dab of the copper Texture Luxe and added a couple of drops of water to it and then applied it.  After it dried, I rubbed ink from the Walnut Brown #177 Stamper's Big Brush Pen into the recessed areas.

Next I used a small piece of black cardstock and covered the front side of it with 3 layers of Chalk Board Paint . Once it was  dry, I wrote the word Autumn on  it with the Stamper's Big Brush pen in white. I applied some Walnut Brown ink around the edge of the canvas as well to create a frame.

 

After everything was dry,  I wrapped some string and beads around the right edge to finish it off.

This project made me really look forward to the upcoming fall season.

Rain Grows Flowers - Art Journal Page

Hello colorful creative souls! I am very much looking forward to a 3 day weekend of playtime in my studio. But before the weekend begins, I'm here to share a very quick art journal spread that celebrates our first 4 featured Gelatos® in the 52 Weeks of Color campaign: Lemon, Snow Cone, Margarita Mix, and Guava!

 

 

This art journal page started off very neat and clean, but took a quick turn when some emotions got the best of me and I covered a lot of my pages with black Chalkboard Paint. I'm so thankful that art is a part of my life so I can use it as a stress reliever! So anyways, I started with a base of Gelatos® Snow Cone and Margarita Mix that I blended with a wet paintbrush...

 

 

Next, I added some pattern with the Doodle Stencil Collection and Snow Cone Gelatos, followed by the Scandinavian Stencil Collection with Lemon Gelatos.

 

 

And that's when my giant fan brush met my Chalkboard Paint and they decided to make friends with my art journal :) Once the Chalkboard Paint dried I used my fingers to add some Texture Luxe™ Pearl.

 

 

I revisited this page a couple days later, when I was in a much better mood :) and decided to brighten it back up with some flowers. I outlined the flowers with Gesso and a brush. Once the Gesso dried I blended the petals with Guava Gelatos, the centers with Lemon Gelatos, and outlined with Snow Cone Gelatos. I also added some very loose details with my Paper Crafter Crayons™.

beYOUtiful System Art Journal Page

Hello creatives! This is Rachel Kleinman back with another tutorial video and art journal page! Nerd alert... this journal page is completely inspired by the solar system, especially with our recent orbit around Jupiter (I mean c'mon.. how cool is that?!) This was one of those projects that just flowed easily from start to finish. Meaning I don't have any step-by-step photos because I was so caught up in the process! But lucky for you guys I filmed the entire thing!

 One of my favorite, but subtle, parts of this page was when I used sand paper to rub off the dried chalkboard paint to let the Texture Luxe Silver paste shine through.

 

 Don't you just love the subtle but bright shimmer from Glass Bead Glitter Gel?! I added some of that lovely shimmer inside each of the 'planets' to help them stand out.

An Art Journaling Tutorial by Mou

Hey everyone, Mou here from colorhappycreations.com. I'm SO glad to be back for another term on the Design Memory Craft Core Design Team! Before I move on to the tutorial, I wanted to thank you all, our readers for taking part in the monthly Take the Challenge with Mou series over the last 3 years and a huge thanks to Design Memory Craft for sponsoring the challenges.

And now, as my first post for this term, I have an art journaling tutorial for you. So, let's get started!

Using Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Textural Accent Gel Medium, collage some found papers onto a old book spread. You can use any journal for this project. Let the gel medium dry thoroughly.

Apply Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Textural Accent Chalk Board Paint with a paint brush leaving out a few selected words from the text.

Once the Chalk Board Paint dries, circle the words and color around them with various shades of Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Paper Crafter Crayons™, blending them as you go.

Apply some Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Gesso with palette knife from Gelatos Tool Set.

Lay a pattern stencil from the 102 Stencil Collection on the left half of the page and apply a thin coat of Texture Luxe™ Gold with a palette knife. Repeat near the bottom right on the facing page. Let dry.

Add another layer of interest with the numeric stencil from the 301 Stencil Collection and Chalk Board Paint.

Rub some Texture Luxe™ Copper on both pages with your fingers.

Make marks and journal with the B tip pen from Essential PITT Artist Pens BLACK to finish.
