Welcome back to another colorful Gelatos® post! This is Rachel Kleinman and I'm sharing a new-to-me project with my favorite Gelatos® color: GUAVA! Last post I shared that Snowcone Gelatos® was the first color I ever owned; but Guava Gelatos® was my first favorite! The name definitely had something to do with it, I mean, Guava Juice is delicious :)

 

 

I started with a plain metal tin that included a little accordion style album inside. You can find these at many arts and crafts stores, or just make your own with an old mint tin. I covered everything with Gesso before adding my Gelatos®, Aquarelle® Pencils, and Whipped Spackle.

 

 

Since Guava Gelatos® is naturally a light color, I used my Aquarelle® Pencils to highlight and outline. You can see I've added a lot of orange to my album, and that's because I always find myself using Guava alongside the Mango Gelatos®. They just work together! You'll see in a lot of my pieces that where there's pink... there is orange right along side it!

 

 

There are a lot of new techniques I share in my how-to video for new ways to use your Guava Gelatos®. This includes misting, melting, and stenciling! 

 

 

This little album and tin is also filled to the brim with Mixed Media Stencils! I really love the addition of stencils to the Design Memory Craft line, it just makes designing so easy!

Layered Stenciled Journal Page with Jen

Hi Artsy Friends!  It's always fun to share a journal page that I have worked on with you!  I am doing a sort of "round robin" journal swap with fellow art teachers in my school district and this page was one of them using lots of stencils and layers.  I wanted to try some different materials together and use different techniques.

When I got these products, I immediately thought of Frida Kahlo with that image on the stamp.  Frida was an amazing female Mexican artist in the 1940's-1950's.  She used her heart and soul in every artwork she created and you can see the story of her life in her work!  She went through so many tragic and painful experiences but didn't let that affect her ability to make art.  In fact, it was therapy for her!

Decorative Magnets

Hello, it´s Denisa. Today I´d like to share with you my handmade magnets. They´re made of ordinary jar lids. I wanted to spruce up my kitchen a little bit because it´s quite small and the only place for some flat decorations is my fridge. So decorative magnets were the right thing.

 

Creating texture on mixed media with Rita

Hey there creatives, Rita Barakat here with an easy way to add depth and texture to your mixed media projects! This tag was created on vellum paper.



I wrote a little quote on my sketch book - I am always writing down ideas for use at a later time! The vellum is great because I can see the lettering underneath and trace it. (this is also a good way to practice writing!- you can always print it out from your computer but I digress... )



It's hard to tell but there is Whipped Spackle and Texture Luxe Textural Accents on the tag. I used my finger to wipe some onto various areas. The Whipped Spackle is very matte and the Texture Luxe has very high sheen with the pearl like shimmer so they look great together!

I used a PITT Art GRIP® Color Pencils but you can use your PITT® Artist Pens, or whatever you like to trace the letters.

 

I added three Gelatos® Colors: :  Iced Coffee, Iced Chai and Snow Cone onto the tag.

I used a baby wipe to blend the Gelatos® Colors -remember you must always blend in Gelatos® Colors, you can't just draw with them, you have to blend that color.

I used a very wet paint brush to flick some splashes of Gelatos® Colors. I traced the writing but I didn't like the way it came out I decided to cover it with Gesso and try it again. (Gesso is your friend!) 

Once it dries you can redo your lettering. Here is a close up...

Canvas Corp Blog Hop Day 5- Jen

Hi everyone!  Jen here to share with you a project that creates with Canvas Corp bag and Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft products.   I started with a hexagon stencil from the Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Mixed Media Stencil 101 Collection and used Gelatos® Colors Brights set to create areas of shape and color.

Color inside the stencil and then blend with finger.  I rub in a circlular direction to create a mixed effect.

I used the same stencil to dab Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Chalkboard Paint over to create some black areas.  Once dry, I added Art GRIP® Color Pencil in white over the chalkboard painted shapes as well as PITT® Artist Pen in Black around some of the Gelatos® shapes.

Here's a view of the back of the bag... I just added some Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Chalkboard Paint through the hexagon stencil and drew with the ArtGrip colored pencil in white.

On the front of the bag, I colored with the Gelatos® Colors in Snow Cone from the Brights set.  I tipped the bag up ( I suggest putting a piece of cardboard inside the bag to create a flat, solid surface to paint on) and sprayed water to create drips down the surface.  Some text was stamped using a Stamper’s Big Brush Pen in black over some areas.

 

Next, I added Texture Luxe™ in Gold to some chipboard shapes from UmWowStudio using a foam dabber in the Gelatos Tool Set.

Using that same hexagon stencil, I added some of the Texture Luxe™ in Gold through using a palette knife.  Allow to dry completely.

Draw a shape (I created a bee shape) with a PITT® Artist Pen and use as a guide to backstitch using colored floss.

Video Tutorial: Valentines Cards!

Hello Blogosphere! It's Tiffany here with a NEW Video Tutorial hot-off-the-press! This time, I'll be revisiting some important Art GRIP®Color Pencil techniques for Valentine's Day! My video is 3-part: easy (fire hydrant), intermediate (dog), and difficult coloring (bicycle). I'll show you my 3 steps for coloring: base color & shape, contrast & depth, blending & highlighting! 

Art GRIP®Color Pencils are acid-free, lightfast, and permanent! The leads also NEVER break because the entire color shaft is glued into its wooden case. You also don't need any special blending stump or Gamsols mineral oils (which are toxic) for blending...this is a HUGE plus for me!

My favorite valentine I ever received was a handmade card from my husband! It had zero sense of balance or art, but was packed full of heart :)
