Gelatos Three Ways

 

Diana Trout here today with a journal page. I'll be using Gelatos as watercolors, underneath Gesso and over Glaze. 

Here are the materials I used 

Gesso
Glaze
Mix and Match Color Gelatos 
Mix and Match Essential Artist Pitt Pens
Paint Brushes
Water Cup
Craft Mat or Silicone Tray

 

I'm working in my Junk Journal today so the paper usually needs some Gesso before making art. I began by scribbling Snow Cone and Kiwi Gelatos on my page. 

Next, I activated the water-soluble Gelatos by painting over them with Gesso. That's one fun way to use Gelatos. You can rub the Gelatos around with a foam or your fingers before painting over with Gesso. I created some texture in areas with the Gesso. 

I love drawing with a pencil into wet Gesso. It's fun! You should try it. You can see how that's done in the video ... 

 

You can see in the video that I used the Gelatos as a watercolor by rubbing them into a puddle on my silicone mat. Wait until the Gelatos are dry before you go over it again. A wet paintbrush will pick up wet Gelatos from your artwork, just like regular watercolor. You can also pick up Gelatos from the tube with a wet paintbrush. That's the second Gelatos Technique.

For the third technique, I first used Glaze to seal the page. This is a good way to seal your work and it provides a writing surface as well. You can't write over Gelatos! Make sure you let the Glaze dry completely before adding details with Pitt Pens.
