Welcome to the FIRST Take the Challenge of 2016 with Mou! Let me start by wishing you all a very Happy New Year!
As we all wind down from the Holiday festivities and all the stresses that come with that, are you ready to take a creative challenge? I hope you are, for it's the time for the January 2016 Take the Challenge with Mou!
If you are new to this blog, let me fill you in about Take the Challenge. Every month, on the first Monday, I'll post a challenge and my take on it. You'll have 12 days to take this on. Leave a comment to the challenge post with a link to your creation based on that challenge. We will pick ONE winner from among the readers who participated in that month's challenge. And the winners will get a prize from Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft®.
January in the Northern Hemisphere means colder weather. Many places are getting snow right now. As artists, we take inspiration from nature. And my inspiration this month is SNOW! We recently moved to a colder climate and just woke up to snow in our own backyard. While that may seem ordinary to many, I am so excited for it's my first time living in a cold place. So, this month's challenge is to create your own snow, whether it's a scrapbook layout or mixed media piece or whatever strikes your fancy!
I created a mixed media canvas as my take using Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Glass Bead Glitter Gel. Let me walk you through the steps starting with a list of supplies.
Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Textural Accents & tools: Glass Bead Glitter Gel, Gel Medium, Gelatos Tool Set, Stencils 10 ct 101 collection
Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Gelatos® colors: PASTELS (Buttercream,Guava, Kiwi) and Metallic Blueberry
Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Stamper's Big Brush Pen COLD GREY III
Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Essential PITT Artist pen BLACK
Others: Canvas, cardstock, old book paper, ephemera, sewing machine thread
Color cardstock with Guava Gelatos® color.
Attach some book paper to cardstock and machine stitch to secure and add texture.
Color the surface with the Gelatos colors.
Lay stencil down on the colored surface and apply Glass Bead Glitter Gel with palette knife.
While the medium dries, stamp around the surface with a script stamp using Stamper's Big Brush pen.
Mount the piece to an 8" x 10" canvas with Gel Medium.
Attach ephemera and apply more Glass Bead Glitter Gel generously around the whole canvas to unify all the elements. Don't worry about covering anything up because the gel will dry dry clear with a lot of texture and beautiful shimmer.
Write your words on cardstock strips with PITT Artist pen. When the medium is thoroughly dry (I left mine overnight), attach to canvas.
Don't forget to check back on Monday, 1/18 to see if YOU won! Good luck to all!
haha, enjoy your snow! you can have mine too :) great page and love the colors!
