I fell head over heals for the Mini Journal Boards when I started playing with them. I keep a large Art Journal but as I am a cardmaker at heart I sometimes have trouble planning such a large surface. These Journaling Boards are just the perfect small format for me and I can add my own pages too since they are bound with rings. Here's the process of making the page and I added a video at the end for you to watch if you'd like. Let's get started!
I started by adding a scrap piece of patterned paper to the board using gel medium. To make it all flat I used an old plastic card to smooth out any bubbles behind the paper. I cut around the page and used a nail file to sandpaper the edges and make it even and pretty. I also added a layer of clear Gesso to prepare the surface for adding color and water on top. I was planning to use the butterfly stencils you see in the corner but I ended up not using them so that's why they are there.
I used the Metallic Melon and Limoncello Gelatos® to color in the top part of the page, the metallic color also makes it shimmer and it's very pretty! I achieved the look by adding the Gelatos® directly to the paper and then blending it out with a paintbrush and spritzing more water on top to make it run down the page. I love the variation in color you get from mixing the colors and letting the water do the blending.
I used some mixed media stamps and the Stamper’s Big Brush Pens (Warm Grey IV and Cool Gray I) to add texture to my page, just stamping a bit randomly across the page. The india ink in the Stamper’s Big Brush Pens are great for this, while it haven't dried you can actually wipe it off if it's not to your liking and when it's dry it's permanent and fade proof. It makes it perfect if you want to blend it out a bit and when you want to add new layers on top of it later.
After letting it dry I added the Gelatos® on the stamped triangles and blended with my fingers. Just make sure the ink from the stamping is completely dry first. I accidentally smudged the first triangle I colored, it really isn't a big deal because mixed media isn't supposed to be perfect but I used my heat tool to make sure the rest was dry before continuing. I also added shading with the Stamper's Big Brush Pens, around the edges and around the triangles. I added some more of the Gelatos® around the edges to frame the page ab it and blended it out with my finger and a wet baby wipe.
I added text to my page by using text stickers. To make sure they didn't come off I glued them down and added gel medium on top. When the gel medium was dry I added shading with the Stamper's Big Brush and blended it out with a wet brush and some baby wipes.
The final step was to add Texture Luxe™ to the triangles and text to give it a bit of gloss and dimension. I let it dry over night and it turned out really pretty! I will punch new holes in the patterned paper and add it to my ring bound journal and keep making new pages in this cute little format. It's just so much fun!
Here's a video of the whole process. I'm not really this fast, it's sped up x3. I hope you enjoy it and if you have questions please leave them as a comment on the post or on my YouTube video and I'll get back as soon as I see them.
