Art Journaling Week 3 with Mou and winners of Take the Challenge

Hi everyone, Mou here today as we continue into week 3 of our art journaling journey.  

So let's recap here... we have chosen a journal and an inspiration piece and created the foundations in our journals. My journal is about seeing beauty beyond landmarks and exotic vacations. It's about paying attention to the beauty in little insignificant things that are often ignored. I took this challenge so if any of you out there feels like they can't art journal because they didn't take a vacation to an intriguing place, I can show you that you can create on the go as well as right where you are. So, while we go on wonderful trips to Italy with Jen, to Florida with Tiffany and to Colorado with Lisa, this time I invite you to take a walk with me in my neighborhood and explore my backyard. Here's to beauty in humble things!

This is my sea glass collection sitting on my window sill. Love how time can polish off the sharp edges of a piece of broken glass. They are no longer clear and bright. But the smoothed out uneven pieces of colored glasses glow in the sunlight. Every morning, I see them when I make breakfast. I sketched the stack with pencil and colored them with various shades of Art GRIP^® Aquarelle Watercolor Pencils. To create an impression of a soft shimmering morning sun through the window, I applied Glass Bead Glitter Gel through a stencil with palette knife. For journaling I used PITT Artist pen BLACK Superfine and the calligraphy pen from Journaling PITT Artist Pens set for the title.

While my Whipped Spackle was still wet after stamping into it, I wrote on it with a pencil.

After stenciling and multi-colored stamping, I still felt that my page looked boring. So I colored the backdrop with some Lemon Gelatos® Double Scoop® Color and blended it with a Deluxe Waterbrush. Love this Waterbrush as it makes watercoloring so easy on the go, whether on a trip or just local strolling and quick sketching.

Here are my real leaves. The background is Chalkboard paint and then I painted a frame around it with Gesso and journaled with the Magenta pen from PITT Artist Pens Writing Set: RED/YELLOW. An it wrote beautifully even on a glazed surface! The title is written with the Stamper's Big White pen, another favorite of mine.

The eggs are colored with Metallic Mint Gelatos® Double Scoop® Color and the shadowing is with PITT Pastel Pencils NEUTRALS. Now, because I'm working on a book where facing pages touch each other when closed, I don't want the pastel pencil to rub off. So I sealed it with Glaze.

Here the background is Chalkboard paint and the leaves are colored with Stamper's Big Brush pens Chrome Yellow # 109 and Scarlet Red # 118. They are also the Stamper's Big Brush pens I used to stamp the background. Yep, you can stamp on Chalkboard paint with Stamper's Big Brush pens... I just realized that while playing!

You can use your PITT Pastel Pencils not only for coloring and shadowing, you can use it as chalk! They go on beautifully on a surface painted with Chalkboard paint. Again, seal it off before you close the book.
