Take the Challenge with Mou, May 2015

Hi everyone, Mou here with the fifth Take the Challenge of 2015.

If you are new to this blog, let me fill you in about Take the Challenge. Every month, on the first Monday, I'll post a challenge and my take on it. You'll have 12 days to take this on. Leave a comment to the challenge post with a link to your creation based on that challenge. We will pick TWO winners from among the readers who participated in that month's challenge. And the winners will get a prize from Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft®.

My May prompt for you is SPRING. Create anything you like that relates to spring in some way. Here's my art journal page.

 

 

On this project, I used:

Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Textural Accents & Tools: Gesso, Gel Medium, Texture Luxe™ Gold, Whipped Spackle, Texture Cards, Gelatos Mist Maker Set

Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Mixed Media Stencils 101 collection: Dots

Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Gelatos® Colors: Blueberry, Cotton Candy (BLUE set), Margarita Mix (TROPICAL set)

Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Essential PITT Artist pens BLACK

Others: Sizzix Die Watering Can; die-cutting system; art journal, patterned papers

 

And here are the steps.

 

 

Apply a moderately thick coat of Gesso to prime the journal page. While still wet, color with Margarita Mix Gelatos color. Create a texture pattern using Texture Card # 8.

 

 

In a bowl, mix about 3 parts water and 1 part gesso. Add in Blueberry and Cotton Candy Gelatos colors by cutting a little off with the palate knife. Mix well.

 

 

With a drip dropper, drop a generous quantity of the above mix and let it travel around by turning the journal page in different directions.

 

 

Go back in with the same Texture Card to accentuate the texture further.

 

 

Apply Whipped Spackle through the Dots stencil. Let dry. Rub in some Texture Luxe Gold with your fingers around the page. When the page feels dry, drip in more of the liquid mix prepared above.

 

 

After the water dries, Add diecut watering can and some handcut water drops with gel medium. Let dry.

 

With PITT Artist pen, outline the elements, doodle and journal on the page. Again, drip in more of the liquid mix to finish.

Hello Mou, This is to inform that I already receive the goodies I won (Feb 2015 Challenge). Thank you so much.

Your art journal page is so beautiful. I like the pattern paper you used for the watering can.

There is only 2 seasons here in the Philippines, hot and very hot season! :) March, April and May is summertime here so its very hot here right now.
