It's another day and another opportunity to get creative! It's Julia Stainton here today with a burlap canvas mixed media project to share with you. I've been wanting to create with Gelatos® and see what I could come up with.
First of all I started with a burlap canvas to create my project. You can purchase these pre-made or make your own by wrapping a piece of burlap over a canvas and then stapling it on the reverse side.
Next step was to prime it with some Gesso. It's just brushed on, mostly over the center of the burlap, and allowed to dry. The burlap has such a great texture and color that I wanted some of it to show through to the final project.
I love using the new Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft® Mixed Media Stencils 101 Collection. As you can see I have some Gelatos® color left on the stencil from a previous project and that's totally fine. To create the beautiful texture I've used the Palette Knife to apply Whipped Spackle to the project through the stencil. Carefully lift the stencil off to reveal your dimensional texture. I find that they only hard part of this canvas is waiting for the Whipped Spackle to dry. When I get excited about a project, I just can't wait to finish it!
Once the Whipped Spackle is thoroughly dry, I then pulled out some of my Gelatos® Double Scoop®. I chose three beautiful shades that make me happy with their warmth and beauty. The Double Scoop® Gelatos® are the same formulation as regular Gelatos®. They only difference is you get twice as much to create with! They are perfect for larger projects and Gelatos® addicts like me! To blend the pigment once applied to the textured areas, I added water to a paintbrush and then lightly blended the color on each of the textured areas. This gives it a beautiful subtle look.
To finish off my project I layered on lots of my favorite embellishments and adhered them with a glue gun. The wood sentiment pieces were painted with a little more Gelatos® and water to tie in with the background.
Finally I completed the canvas by adding a light stroke of ink around the canvas with the Black Stamper's Big Brush Pen.
Thanks for joining me today! I hope you'll be inspired to pull out your Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft® supplies and get creating!
