Hi everyone, Mou here with Halloween home decor tutorial for you.
Do you ever shop in kid craft aisles? I do... some for my kids, especially my son who loves to paint things, but also for me. Don't always have a plan, but I pick up random things here and there. Such was the case of the Halloween chandelier.
After sitting in a bin in my studio for at least a couple of years, it finally saw light of day. I found this chandelier at JoAnn. I altered it with the following supplies:
Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Textural Accent: Chalkboard Paint
Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Textural Accent: Gesso
Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Textural Accent: Gel Medium
Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Textural Accent: Glass Bead Glitter Gel
Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Gelatos Tool Set
Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Gelatos® colors: Gold Champagne, Iced Chai, Tangerine, Mango, Red Cherry, Blueberry, Cotton Candy, Metallic Mint
Others: punchinella, stencil, string
Start by adding a coat of Gesso to the chandelier pieces. Be sure to coat both the front and the back as you'll see all the sides when it's assembled and displayed.
Next, coat parts of the chandelier with chalkboard paint leaving out the candles and flames.
It should look something like this.
Color the candles with Gold Champagne and Iced Chai Gelatos® colors and blend with Gel Medium.
Color the flames with Mango, Tangerine and Red Cherry Gelatos® colors and blend with Gel Medium.
Add some dimension to the chandelier structure by rubbing on Blueberry, Cotton Candy, Gold Champagne and Metallic Mint Gelatos® colors. Blend the colors with your fingers.
Lay a stencil over the chalkboard painted part of a chandelier piece and apply Glass Bead Glitter Gel with palette knife. Let dry thoroughly. Repeat on every surface of each chandelier piece.
When dry, lay a punchinella over some parts and color lightly with Iced Chai Gelatos® color.
Assemble the pieces together and tie with string to display in a chosen spot.
Hope you enjoyed the tutorial and now, it's time to announce the winners of October 2014 Take the Challenge with Mou.
