Hi everyone it's Susanne today! Since I've been a guest designer on the Design Memory Craft blog my love for mixed media and art journalling is growing everyday. Faber-Castell has some awesome Mini Journal Boards, which are perfect for working and practicing art with the Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft products. The boards are double sided, have a watercolor texture and are designed to withstand wet mediums without warping.
I want to create myself a kind of an unusual Art Journal! On my way doing art and mixed media creations I realized that whenever I tried something new or strange the result was "WOW".
Here is a step by step tutorial on how I created the cover of my album:
I started by doodleing with my Faber-Castell Paper Crafter Crayons™. When I was ready I heat set it with my heat gun to melt the Crayon and give it a smooth texture and a nice shine. After that I wet my board very well.
I used my Pistachio Gelato® and painted the top of the board. I always use my fingers to blend the Gelatos®. I sprayed the colored part with lots of more water and let the color drip to the bottom. I let it do it's own job. I also added some Snowcone Gelato® Double Scoup® in the middle. The fun thing on the Paper Crafter Crayons™ is, they resist the water and the Gelatos®.
The next step was some stamping! I used my black Stamper's Big Brush Pen. It is filled with India Ink, which means it is a permanent ink, and it works perfectly on the Gelatos® AND on the Paper Crafter's Crayons™. All the Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Products Mix and Match between each other!
I continued with stamping. I wanted the images to be irregular and imperfect. So I just used the stamp without mounting it onto a clear block.
When everything was dry I embossed some Fran-tage embossing powder onto the top. Some of you might know, that you have to heat set this kind of embossing powder from underneath, because your heat gun will blow it away, if you heat it from the top. It takes a little time because the board is really thick, but it'll work perfectly. My background was finished after embossing, so I added a little bit of masking tape and the butterfly. It's embossed with black embossing powder on some vellum.
To finish it up I added some of my fake enamel dots. I created them in two different ways. For some I just adhered some washi tape on a piece of paper and cut some small circles. For the others I colored a piece of paper (which was covered with Gesso) with my Gelatos® and also cut some small circles. After adhereing the dots to my cover I gave them some dimension with Glossy Accents. For the title "TRY SOMETHING UNUSUAL" I used my Labelmaker and some translucent labels.
Now I have to say goodbye, because this was my last post during the time on the summer guest design team. I want to say THANK YOU for choosing me to the team. I learned so many new things.
Have a good time! Susanne.
By the way, do you see why I call it "unusual"? ;-)
