Hi, folks! Margie Higuchi here with a 4th of July themed project of coloring these stinkin' cute mini glass jars! We have a new Goodwill Store open in our shopping mall so when I checked it out...well, who could resist?! LOL!!
Let me share with you how I FIRST gave this idea a try...I used the Gel Medium, Red Cherry Gelato® Double Scoop® color and a water mister together to mix with my Palette Knife in a disposable cup. Create with acrylic paint consistency in mind. Then I poured the coloring inside the jar and moved it around to cover. Pour the excess out into the cup and place the jar upside down to dry. Dry time varies but I left it for about an hour or two. I repeated the process two or three times.
This is how it turned out...I used Red Cherry Gelatos® Double Scoop®, Blueberry Gelatos® Double Scoop® and Coconut Gelatos® Double Scoop® colors.
If you like this look (a shiny distressed look), you're done - just add in your embellishment and call it day! LOL! BUT I wanted something more...SO I took these jars to paint Gesso on the OUTSIDE of the jars and then painted the Gel mixture over it (two coats, dry time between coats).
I created tissue flowers using Spellbinders® S4-312 Blossoms Three (retired) by cutting six of layers of Pass The Tissue, Ephemera Collage tissue at once. Poke a hole, insert a brad and fluffed it up like a ball. Color the wood stick with Stamper's Big Brush Permanent Green Olive Pen - let the color set and dry (takes a couple of minutes). Adhere to the tissue flower.
As an accent, I cut and embossed Stars Five die. I stamped Shooting Stars Cling Stitched Background Stamp, using Design Memory Craft® Blueberry Gelatos® Double Scoop® color then lightly misting water with a mister for a lighter background look. Then I stamped Let Freedom Ring Clear Stamps sentiment with Stamper's Big Brush Scarlet Red Pen.
Add flowers, embellishments, stamped star and tie ribbon around the jars for a wonderful center piece on your 4th of July picnic table! Here's another look...

I love that! I'll do it with various colors in different jars and use it just empty as a table decoration. Fantastic!
