Chalkboard Birthday Tin

600WM ChalkboardBirthdayTin MargieHiguchi JUN14

Hi everyone! Margie Higuchi here. Today, I’d like to show how I repurposed a mint tin by using many wonderful Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft® products! I love how the colors and mediums mix and match to make it SO EASY to create!

First we need to prep the tin by sanding the surface and then applying Gesso. I put two coats on with dry time in between coats.

Next I covered the entire tin with Chalkboard Paint. I put three coats on with dry time in between coats. Love it!

Now for the fun part - to embellish! First I spread Whipped Spackle on the top of the tin with my finger.

Then I edge Gesso on the edge of the lid with a brush.

Gesso edges

I colored with Bubble Gum Gelatos®, Mango Gelatos® and Snow Cone Gelatos® on the dried Whipped Spackled area.

Gelato spackle

To make the top a little more interesting I torn small pieces of Ephemera Collage printed tissue paper and applied Gel Medium to adhere and seal.

Tissue n gel

The same color combination of Gelatos® sticks was used to edge the lid to keep the colors consistent throughout the project.

Gelato edging

I cut/embossed Bitty Blossoms and Ironwork Motifs dies with patterned papers.

Die cuts

After rolling the blossoms, I colored with Metallic Melon Gelatos® and Metallic Mint Gelatos® on its edges. Love the shimmer it gives because the metallic pigment!

Highlight flowers

To add a different kind of texture, I rolled orange twine to create a wreath and sealed with Gel Medium. Let dry. It will stiffen and it's ready to be added.

Stamp a birthday sentiment from Cupcake Wishes Cling Stamps set with Stamper's Big Brush Pen Cobalt Green. Then place Standard Circles SM die over the sentiment to cut and emboss.

Add everything on including pins, sequins and butterfly...a second look at the finished project.
