Take the Challenge with Mou, April 2014

Hi everyone, Mou here  and welcome to the fourth Take The Challenge of 2014!

If you are new to this blog, let me fill you in about Take the Challenge. Every month, on the first Monday, I'll post a challenge and my take on it. You'll have 12 days to take this on. Leave a comment to the challenge post with a link to your creation based on that challenge. We will pick TWO winners from among the readers who participated in that month's challenge. And the winners will get a prize from Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft®.
We just returned from our sprink break. We went on a cruise to Haiti, Jamaica, and Cozumel. When we go on such family vacations, I carry a sketch book and my Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Art GRIP® Aquarelle watercolor pencils, Deluxe Waterbrush, and Essential PITT Artist pens (BLACK). The light load works best for me. In between shore excursions and general entertainment and relaxing, I sketch simple scenes around me.
How do you stay creative during your vacations? Show us any project you created on the go.

Here's my take.

And I took a quick photo around the same time to show what I mean by simple scenes. Here's my son, busy playing with his i-pod nano on our private deck.

I started with a pencil sketch.

Next I colored the sketch with various shades of Art GRIP® Aquarelle watercolor pencils.

I used the Deluxe Waterbrush to blend the colors. When dry, I added details with Essential PITT Artist pens (BLACK).

And of course, I wasn't the only one enjoying being creative on vacation :)

Don't forget to share your challenge creations with us... just leave a comment to the challenge post with link to your project image(s) by Friday, 4/18 and we will pick TWO winners randomly to win these.

The prizes for this challenge are: One set of 9 ct Art GRIP Aquarelle Watercolor Pencils in the color of your choice.

Don't forget to check back on Monday, 4/21 to see if YOU won!

Good luck to all!

FABULOUS sketch - looks like a wonderful cruise!!!

This is a GREAT CHALLENGE because creativity NEVER RESTS!!!

... I will have to have to search out some photos to share :)

Before leaving home I make a travel journal and prepare some of the pages with backgrounds and info about our destination. I use a combination of pencils, watercolour pencils and archival ink pens to capture memories - sometimes they're quick and sometimes I have the luxury of completing a detailed picture.
Love your challenges :)

I brought my Gelli plate while on vacation at our cottage and taught my mom how to make prints!

@Cheryl Davenport- just post the FB link here.

That was an amazing tutorial! Thanks for sharing!

I often get most my scrappy time on the go, whether at the cottage or at a crop. Here I got to play with my new Stamper's Big Brushes that I picked up on my travels.

Thanks for the interesting challenge!:)

Thank you for the wonderful inspiration Mou! Your art page from your journal while on vacation is lovely! I love how you were so inspired by your son and the surroundings, you captured the moment by this marvelous sketch. I was inspired to create my own on-the-go journal to take with me everywhere and jot down inspiration while I'm out-n-about. Here is a link to my on-the-go journal: Thanks again for the wonderful challenge!

Linsey, thanks :) could you please post your link once more? The above link is not showing your post. Thanks for playing along!

Great challenge, Mou! When I'm away from home, I like to make zentangles and create little projects like this.

Linsey R

Sure, here is the direct link to my blog--actually I did 2 projects so I'll give both links (1-On The Go Journal; 2-Mini Accordian Album)
