This project was such a thrill to make! I started with a $1 wood frame that had no dimension. With Faber Castell Gel Medium and a wood grain stamp I was able to make this great faux wood grain frame. Here's how I made it...
I covered the frame in the Gel Medium and stamped the woodgrain rubber stamp into the gel to create a dimensional grain.
After the Gel Medium dried, I used the Nougat Artist Big Brush Pen with water and painted over the dried gel. This helped bring out the look of the wood grain. It was really fun seeing the new print uncovered by the paint.
I printed out the "Give Thanks" saying onto adhesive canvas and cut it out using scissors. Next, I painted it using Gelatos.
I thought the light colored background was wrong for this project so I used Squid Ink, Metallic Melon and Banana Gelatos to give it a more subdued look. I added water to my craft mat, colored onto it using my Gelatos and picked the color up with my paintbrush. Gelatos are really fun and easy to use.
I used my glue gun to attach a natural fiber ribbon and then used pop dots to attach the Give Thanks fabric saying. I decided to cut the "everyday" part off of the saying.
This $1 frame makeover is a big hit here. That's a photo of my youngest son with our English Mastiff puppy a few months ago.
I love that these great Faber Castell products helped me create such a memorable item. It's living on our mantel now. YAY!
