Jen Matott here with some new kicks to share! I found these shoes at Target (my favorite place to shop)... I knew on first glace that they were perfect for altering! Too plain on their own but with some Gelatos, Stamper's Big Brush Pens, and Gesso, they were transformed into a one-of-a-kind pair of shoes! I can't wait for spring so I can wear them!
First I used painter's tape to mask off the cord wedges. I didn't want color to get on that part. I coated portions of the canvas with Textural Accents Gesso. The Gesso creates a primed surface that allows color to be more intense and seals the fabric before color application.
I added Gelatos® in 50's Cafe and Tropical Mix and Match colors to the shoe first and smudged with my finger. Then, I added a bit of water to blend some areas together.
Next, I used a circle template to apply Gelatos® in contrasting colors. The sponge dabber was used to pick up the Squid Ink Gelato® from my craft mat and apply through a dotted stencil. Circles were sketched with the Stamper's Big Brush Pen in Black.
Lastly, I stamped text and a feather image over the top with a Stamper's Big Brush Pen in Black. The entire shoe was coated with Textural Accents Gel Medium as a sealant.
I love the colors and designs on these and they will look perfect with my new yellow shirtdress that I'm going to wear Easter weekend! Now I'm on the lookout for some shoes with open toes to alter for summer!
