Hi, it’s Jill here sharing a card created with Creative Imaginations and Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft products. To create the ornament, I began by die cutting a piece of book text and covering the die cut image with gesso. Next, I stamped the ornament with a Penny Black background stamp using VersaMark ink, sprinkled with white embossing powder and applied heat to set. I painted onto the book paper with the gorgeous jewel tones of Twinkling H2O’s Holiday Sparkle set. Once dry, I removed some ink from the embossed image with a baby wipe. I applied a layer of Coconut Gelato™ all over the ornament and blended with my finger. I just love how the Gelato™ combined with the Twinkling H2O colors created such a creamy look with just a hint of book text showing through.
The die cut leaves and background papers are from the Creative Imaginations Rejoice collection. I highlighted the texture of the pierced background paper by coloring onto a piece of scratch paper with a PITT® Pastel Pencil (#1122-176), rubbing my finger into colored area to pick up the color, and then rubbing my finger over the pierced holes. I followed this same procedure to deepen the color of the card base as well.
The beautiful purples, blues, and muted background papers inspired me to step out of my comfort zone and create a Christmas card in a soft, nontraditional color palette. What are your favorite colors for handmade Christmas cards?

Beautiful card. Love the idea of using other colors for Christmas. We seem to get stuck in the rut of red and green. I made some Christmas cards and used red polka dot paper and blue paper, adding touches of white. The embellishment was mittens so it had a winter theme. The front sentiment was "Warmest Wishes" and Merry Christmas inside the card. I thought it said Christmas very well.

I like the non-Traditional colors and textures. I like the depth created on the ornament, by the layering of Gesso over text; and stamping with VersaMark Ink, application of white embossing powder coloring with Twinkling H2O's Holiday Sparkle set, and Coconut Gelato,
Being a person that loves purple, it's a color that always finds it's way into my handmade cards in various shades and hues over the years.
