Hi, it’s Jill here with three stamped tags to share. I just love making Christmas tags and in creating this trio of tags, I experimented with some new techniques. I took some photos along the way so let’s get started!
Begin by stamping your favorite Christmas images. I used three images illustrated by Mo Manning for Penny Black. Stamp the images off the edge of the tags, so you have plenty of room left to play around with some background techniques. Color the images with Art GRIP® Color Pencils. Use Stamper’s Big Brush Pen Light Flesh 132 to color skin tones, adding shading on top with Art GRIP® Color Pencils. Oh, and don’t forget, it’s easy to go back and add highlights to your image using the White 101 Stamper’s Big Brush Pen.
Next, using a Stamper’s Big Brush Pen, color directly onto your stamp, remove some ink by dabbing it with a baby wipe and stamp onto your tag.
Now use Gesso, which is like a watered down white paint-perfect for toning down a stamped background, and paint over the background stamping.
Add some paint splatters by coloring with a Stamper’s Big Brush Pen onto an acrylic block, adding water with a paint brush, and flicking the ink onto the tag. Next, paint over the entire tag using Mod Podge or any other decoupage medium. This step is crucial as it takes the porous surface of the paper tag and “converts” it to a nonporous surface. This will allow us to easily blend the Stamper’s Big Brush Pens to color the background.
Color onto the tag background with Stamper’s Big Brush Pens and blend the color with your fingertip. The color easily moves over the Mod Podge background, but once it dries it will be permanent.
Continue adding and building up color with Stamper’s Big Brush Pens and even Gelatos™.
Now you could stop here if you wanted a lighter background with some of your background stamping showing through, but I decided to add a bit more coloring with Stamper’s Big Brush Pens and some Gesso along the right hand side, painting it on with a paint brush and then patting it with my fingertip to blend. (Gotta love an excuse to finger-paint; right?)
Add Chocolate Gelato™ around the edge of the tag, blending with your fingertip as you go. Finally, add the stamped sentiment, twine and ribbon.
Follow the same steps to create more coordinating tags! Wouldn’t these be fun to add to Christmas gift bags or presents?
