Stamping with Subtle Tones

Jillsubtle1

Hi! Jill here and today’s card features one of my favorite techniques-coloring directly onto my stamp with my Stamper’s Big Brush Pens.  The fern image on my card was stamped using Subtle Tones Stamper’s Big Brush Pens Light Flesh 132, Ivory 103, and PITT® Artist Pen Cold Grey I 230.

Begin by coloring directly onto the stamp.

Next, for a soft watercolor effect, lightly mist the stamp with water and stamp onto cardstock.

This next step makes a HUGE difference in adding depth to your stamped images.  Add a soft outline around the fern leaves using PITT® Artist Pens Cold Grey I 230 and Warm Grey I 270.  Lightly color over the center stems as well.  To see what a difference the Subtle Tones outlining makes, take a look at these before and after photos.

To finish the card, color with Stamper’s Big Brush Pen Light Flesh 132 onto the background cardstock that shows under the curled edges.  Stamp with script using Stamper’s Big Brush Pen Nougat 178. Color butterflies with this same color.  Accentuate texture on upper portion of card by coloring with PITT® Pastel Pencil 176 onto a piece of scratch paper, removing some color with your fingertip, and rubbing fingertip over the embossed area. Finally, adhere twine, butterflies, pearls, and sentiment.

Supplies:

Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft®:: Subtle Tones Markers (Stamper’s Big Brush Pen Light Flesh 132 and Ivory 103 and PITT® Artist Pens Warm Grey I 270 and Cold Grey I 230), PITT® Pastel Pencil 176, Stamper’s Big Brush Pen Black 199
Penny Black Stamps: 40-111 Breezy, 30-113 Petal Party, 1999L Letter Background
Other: Spellbinders (Butterflies Two and Twisted Metal Tags and Accents), Martha Stewart Royal Butterfly Punch, Pearls, Twine, Sizzix Gridlock Embossing Folder
