Shimmery Holiday Card with Silver Ice Gelatos®

FCDMC_December2016_Tutorial2_MouS

Hi everyone, Mou here today with a shimmery holiday card tutorial using Silver Ice Gelatos®! It's quick and easy. Gather the supplies listed below and follow along.

Supplies:

Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Gelatos® : Silver Ice, Iced Chai

Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Textural Accent: Gel Medium

Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Essential PITT Artist Pens: BLACK

Other: Watercolor paper, ledger paper or another print paper, scissors, stamp, palette/ craft mat, paint brush, water

FCDMC_December2016_Tutorial2_Step1_MouS

Trim watercolor paper down to your favorite size and fold in half to make the card base. Rub Silver Ice Gelatos softly on the surface and blend with water.

FCDMC_December2016_Tutorial2_Step2_MouS

Did you know that you can use your Gelatos with stamps? Just gently rub Silver Ice Gelatos on a scripty background stamp. Then huff on it or spritz it with a little water to activate the pigment. Stamp all over the card using this technique. Remember that we are simply trying to create an interesting background, so the stamping does not need to be perfect. In fact, in this case, the more imperfection the better.

FCDMC_December2016_Tutorial2_Step3_MouS

Rub some Iced Chai Gelatos on a palette or craft mat and activate with water. Splatter the diluted pigment on the card as shown.

FCDMC_December2016_Tutorial2_Step4_MouS

Use the same stamp with the Iced Chai Gelatos to create another shimmery layer to your card.

FCDMC_December2016_Tutorial2_Step5_MouS

Take some ledger or print or another found paper and cut it into a Christmas tree. Again, the more childish your cut, the better!

FCDMC_December2016_Tutorial2_Step6_MouS

Attach the tree to the card with Gel Medium. Add a small banner piece below the tree and write your greetings on it with Essential PITT Artist pen to finish.

I hope you enjoyed today's tutorial! A very Happy Holidays to you and yours!

BOO! Halloween Card

2016-10-20 19.32.02

Hello spooky artists! This is Rachel again and I'm here to share this quick Halloween card. Halloween is only 10 days away! I hope your house is decorated and your candy bowls are full :)

2016-10-19 19.11.35

I started with a card base that I had very lightly Gesso'd, and blended Silver Ice and Metallic Icing Gelatos® throughout the background. The Design Memory Craft Gesso is great to make cardstock sturdier and more water resistant, as well as giving the Gelatos® a non-porous surface to blend.

2016-10-19 19.24.39

Next,  I mixed the Cinnamon Gelatos® Color of the Week with some Design Memory Craft Glaze medium. I added a very thick and somewhat messy large strip of the Glaze across the card. When the Glaze dried it left an almost velvety look and feel to my card. It is such an easy way to make a big impact on a card!

2016-10-20 19.03.45

I really wanted this card to be all about the metallic colors that match so perfectly with Cinnamon Gelatos®. So obviously Gold Texture Luxe™ through a Mixed Media 102 Stencil was the next best choice! Have I mentioned already how much I love this stuff?! Because I love Gold Texture Luxe™. A lot.

2016-10-20 19.31.04

Now it's time to add the details to finish the card. I die cut a circle frame from some Halloween patterned paper to anchor my creepy boy bat stamped image. The stamp is colored with Art Grip® Aquarelle Watercolor Pencils and topped with some Glass Bead Glitter Gel. For the sentiment I used Mixed Media 301 Stencils with Black Licorice Gelatos® to spell the word "BOO!".

2016-10-20 19.32.30

2016-10-20 19.32.02

Thanks for stopping in! I hope you use this weekend to finish off your fun autumn and Halloween cards!

On-the-go Travel Journal Tutorial by Mou Saha

FCDMCAugust2016_ClearScrapsTutorial_MouS

Hello there, Mou here today with an on-the-go travel journal tutorial for you using various Faber-Castell® Design Memory Craft® products along with a Clear Scraps Chipboard and Acrylic album!

You can approach an on-the-go travel journal in several ways - I sometimes approach it by creating the backgrounds in advance. This inspires me to work on the journal when I am traveling because I am not starting a blank journal which like a blank canvas can sometimes be daunting. Moreover, I have colorful pages to work on without having to carry a ton of products with me. In this case, I will be carrying just the brush tip pen from the Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Essential PITT Artist Pens BLACK set.

So, let's get started!

Flowers and Flourishes

Flowers to Flourishes Watermarked

Hi Beauties. Tiare here.  Today, I am playing in my mixed media journal.  I love putting together art journals.  I have tons of them for all kinds of reasons.   This one is filled with Design Memory Craft goodness.  Lots of playing with techniques here.  I decided I wanted to play with Gelatos® and try out a fun floral technique. Cute, right?  You should try it too.  Here's how.

Florals and Flourishes 1

First cover your background with Gesso.  Choose a fun background stamp, spritz with a little bit of water, color with various Stamper’s Big Brush Pens.  I used May Green 170 and Cobalt Turquoise 153. Stamp your image.

Flowers and Flourishes 2

Color over using Gelatos® Colors Snowcone and Kiwi spread with finger or paint brush.  Be sure to spritz with a little bit of water or dip your paint brush in water first.  I really love how the Gelatos® and Big Brush Pens work together so well.

Flowers and Flourishes 3

Use Gelatos® Colors Banana to draw and color in flowers.  I added Gelatos® Colors Cinnamon to add a bit of shading and depth.   Use blender to blend colors.

Flowers and Flourishes 4

Outline flowers, petals and stems using Stamper's Big Brush Black 188.

Flowers and Flourishes 5

Use Stamper's Big Brush Pen Black 188 to doodle in flourishes and to ink the edge of your page.

Flowers to Flourishes 2 Watermarked

To finish it off, add splatters of Gelatos® Colors Licorice by flicking a wet brush across the top the Gelatos®.

Autumn Leaves

This week's Gelatos® color of the week is Red Cherry.  I chose a project with an Autumn theme which works perfectly with this bright, fun color.

Autumn Leaves - by Erin Bassett

I started by decoupaging a canvas panel with a music sheet and Gel Medium. Next, I applied Red Cherry and Blood Orange Gelatos to it and used Gel Medium to move it around my background. I ended up layering up a few layers this way so that the colors would become intense.

Gelatos on decoupaged canvas

Next I added a layer of Glaze. I love how glossy the glaze makes the paper! I used a rubber stamp to make an impression in it while it was still wet.  It's a really neat technique.  I ended up covering it but I at least wanted to show you another fun way to use the Glaze.
Stamped impression in Glaze

For the leaves, I used my die-cut machine to cut a leaf shape out of black cardstock .  You can also draw the leaf and cut it out of cardstock if you don't have a die-cut machine. Next, I  mixed together some Whipped Spackle and Gold Texture Luxe™. Mixing these creates a different color and texture while retaining it's metallic shine.  After they were mixed, I added some Gold Champagne Gelatos to half of it. The gold  really bumped up the metallic look and darkened it as well. I used a pencil to etch some vein lines before the mixture dried.

I did the same technique using Whipped Spackle, Copper Texture Luxe, and Iced Chai Gelatos to it for the other leaf.
Mixing Texture Luxe and Whipped Spackle

The bookplate I used was originally silver, and I wanted it to be copper, so I used a dab of the copper Texture Luxe and added a couple of drops of water to it and then applied it.  After it dried, I rubbed ink from the Walnut Brown #177 Stamper's Big Brush Pen into the recessed areas.
Bookplate and Copper Texture Luxe

Next I used a small piece of black cardstock and covered the front side of it with 3 layers of Chalk Board Paint . Once it was  dry, I wrote the word Autumn on  it with the Stamper's Big Brush pen in white. I applied some Walnut Brown ink around the edge of the canvas as well to create a frame.

After everything was dry,  I wrapped some string and beads around the right edge to finish it off.

Autumn Leaves - closeupThis project made me really look forward to the upcoming fall season.

Enjoy,

Erin

Red Cherry and I'm Thinking of You

Sept 5 Thinking of You Card

Hi All. Tiare here with a sweet card idea.  With so much stress in the world from natural disasters, to sadness, to loneliness, to just because, it is always a good idea to have a stash of "Thinking of You," cards.  I love having cards available to send when any occasion calls.

Here's how you too can make this cute card with a splash of the Color of the Week, Gelatos® Red Cherry.

Don't have a pre-made card base, no worries, just cut an 8.5"x11" piece of paper in half, straight down the middle.  Next fold in half and you'll have a 4.25"x5.5" card.  Perfect for an A2 envelope.

Sept 5 Thinking of You 1

Use the spatula to spread a bit of Glass Bead Glitter Gel on your card background. To add a touch of color, color on a piece of freezer paper using your Stamper's Big Brush Cadmium Yellow 107 and Scarlet Red 118, spritz with water and tap onto Glass Bead Glitter Gel and card background.

Sept 5 Thinking of You 2

Put aside to dry.  While drying use the Scandinavian Stencil Set to create a fun flower using Gelatos® Buttercream, Guava and Red Cherry. Use blending tool to the blend the colors as you go from one color to the other.  Do the same to create your leaves using Gelatos® Lime and Iced Pear. Cut out flowers and leaves.

Sept 5 Thinking of You 4

Adhere leaves to the back of the flower.

Sept 5 Thinking of You Card

Adhere black floss to the back of the flower, allowing it to peek from sides, to add interest.  Use pop dots to adhere flower and allow it to pop from the card. Use Stamper's Big Brush Black 101 to color onto sentiment stamp and then stamp onto a small piece of paper and add to card, as the finishing touch.

Tada.  So sweet and ready to send.

Supplies used:

Gelatos® Red Cherry, Guava, Buttercream, Lime, Iced Pear

Stamping with Gelatos®

Faber-Castell Guava Gelatos + Aquarelle by Erin Bassett

You are awesome!

Sometimes you just need that reminder or want to share it with someone else so I made this little 4" x 6" piece of art that I could put in our guest room. I love how it turned out. It's almost magic how the highlighting of the flowers happens with this technique. Here's how I created the project.

I started off by using PITT® Artist Pen Black #199 as ink to stamp a flower image onto a 4" x 6" piece of watercolor paper.

Faber-Castell Guava Gelatos + Aquarelle by Erin Bassett

Next,  I used Art GRIP® Aquarelle Watercolor Pencil #126 to color in the areas of the flowers that I wanted shaded.
Faber-Castell Guava Gelatos + Aquarelle by Erin Bassett

Next,  I activated the watercolor with water.
Faber-Castell Guava Gelatos + Aquarelle by Erin Bassett

While that dried, I mixed together about a 1/8" chunk of Guava Gelatos®, a Palette Knife full of Gel Medium, and a small spritz of water.
Faber-Castell Guava Gelatos + Aquarelle by Erin Bassett

I then painted it onto the shadow stamp and stamped it onto my flower.

Faber-Castell Guava Gelatos + Aquarelle by Erin Bassett

I really love the irregularity of the Gelatos® and how the watercolor pencils pop through.

Faber-Castell Guava Gelatos + Aquarelle by Erin Bassett - Step 4

Next, I stamped some leaves with May Green #170 PITT® Artist Pen and water colored them in with a Kiwi Gelatos®. I also used Art GRIP®Aquarelle Watercolor Pencil #147 and #153 to color in the blue background and then activated it with water.  Lastly, I added a sentiment that was stamped and embossed with black embossing powder and slipped it into the frame.
