Home Decor with Mixed Media Paper Stencils - 305 (Wedding)

Hi everyone, Mou here with a mixed media decor tutorial using the new Mixed Media Paper Stencils - 305 (Wedding)!

Collect the following supplies and follow along -

Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Mixed Media Paper Stencils - 305 (Wedding)

Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Gesso

Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Texture Luxe™ Gold

Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Texture Luxe™ Silver

Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Whipped Spackle

Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Glass Bead Glitter Gel

Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Gelatos - Translucents (0r Gelatos colors of your choice)

Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Palette Knife

Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Silicone spatula (optional)

8" x 8" stretched canvas

Plastic wrap

Apply a coat of gesso to the canvas. Let dry.

Add a base coat of colors using the Gelatos colors - Translucents - Lychee, Creme De Menthe, Thistle and Persimmon and blend them with a sponge. You can replace these colors with Gelatos colors of your choice or those that match your event/occasion color scheme.

Apply a thin top coat of Texture Luxe™ Silver with palette knife.

Immediately cover the wet canvas with a piece of plastic wrap. Smoosh the plastic over the wet Texture Luxe™ Silver around gently with your fingers to create texture. Leave the wrap on till the Texture Luxe™ Silver dries. Do not try to speed up the drying process with a heat tool as the heat might melt the plastic onto the canvas.

Carefully peel away the plastic wrap to reveal the textured surface.

Lay the Always & Forever stencil at about the center of the canvas and apply Whipped Spackle with palette knife. Avoid applying Whipped Spackle on the 'o' or wedding ring part of the Forever. Let the medium dry thoroughly.

Apply Texture Luxe™ Gold on the wedding rings part of the Always & Forever stencil with palette knife. Let dry completely.

Apply Glass Bead Glitter Gel to create the gem part of the wedding rings using the Always & Forever stencil and palette knife. Let dry.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and would play with the Mixed Media Paper Stencils - 305 (Wedding) and various mediums to create fun projects for your home or to give as gift!

Iridescent Word Tags

2017-12-26 16.21.19

It's that time of year when many of us select a word to focus on for the year, rather than make traditional resolutions. This is something that I've done for the last several years. In 2018 my word will be "Intentional".

For me that means making more deliberate choices about what I spend my money on, the food that I eat, how I spend my time and who I give my energy to. I've found that having visual reminders helps keep my word at the forefront of my mind.

Today I've made some altered shipping tags with my own word, as well as one for a friend.

2017-12-26 09.29.27

I started by giving 2 shipping tags a generous coat of Gesso.

2017-12-26 09.51.30

I began building color by using one of my favorite techniques which is to scribble onto a craft sheet, with my Gelatos, and spritzing with water. First I used Stardust, which is part of the Iridescents set.

2017-12-26 09.51.30

Next, I did the same thing with Supernova and Nebula Gelatos, also from the Iridescents set. I just love where the colors run together and blend. That's where the magic starts to happen, for me!

2017-12-26 10.12.32

I brushed on some Gesso to help soften and unite the colors. Building layers is part of the fun, so don't worry about losing some of the vibrancy.

2017-12-26 10.19.46

To create texture, I added stamping using miscellaneous stamps that I had on hand.

2017-12-26 10.20.02

Using the same color Gelatos, I began adding color back in.

2017-12-26 10.26.42

To add even more texture, I used a stencil from the 301 Stencil Collection, and wiped off some of the color with a wet baby wipe.

2017-12-26 10.39.10

After letting my tags dry for a couple minutes, I used Essential PITT Artist Pens, and a Stampers Big White Pen to make some marks.

2017-12-26 14.49.17

Next, I tore thin strips of leftover muslin that I had on hand and used the same Gelatos to give them some color. I also added a few drops of ink and a bit of stamping.

2017-12-26 15.33.14

2017-12-26 15.39.05

On another couple of pieces of muslin I stamped out my two words and ran a wonky stitch around them to attach them to the tags.

2017-12-26 15.46.28

I don't let my lack of sewing skills stop me. Instead, I embrace the wonky stitch and have at it.

2017-12-26 15.46.39

To finish off my tags, I used the torn strips of muslin like ribbon, and looped them through the holes. I also added a bit of contrasting color to the edges, using Black Hole, also from the Iridescents set, to create some depth.

2017-12-26 16.21.06

Thank you for following along. Wishing  you much, love, laughter, happiness in the coming year.

xo, Belen

Winter Canvas

Hey friends! Today I'm in the studio making some winter inspired canvas artwork.

20171224 Both Canvas Belen SoteloMARKED

2017-12-24 10.51.24

I started by giving my 2 canvas a generous coat of Gesso and allowing it to dry.

2017-12-24 10.51.24

I gave both my canvas a base layer of color, using Fig, Silver Ice, and a Deluxe Water Brush.

2017-12-24 11.01.22

Using a wet baby wipe, I removed some of the color from each canvas. This helps create some great texture.

2017-12-24 11.27.05

On one of my canvas I use the Warm Wishes stencil and Texture Luxe in copper. I set that aside to dry and started on my other canvas.

2017-12-24 11.15.32
2017-12-24 11.15.32

For this one I used a mittens stencil and a Gelatos in Satellite, which comes in the Iridescents set.

2017-12-24 11.32.48

2017-12-24 11.43.34

Using Gelatos in Blueberry to add some definition to my mittens design and ran a water brush around it to soften the line.

2017-12-24 11.56.07

Next, I added a bit of stamping and used a Stampers Big White Pen to make some marks.

For an extra bit of sparkle, I added glitter to Whipped Spackle and spread that on with Palette Knife. I set this canvas aside to dry.

2017-12-24 12.04.49

Switching back to the first canvas, I used more of the Satellite Gelatos to add the sentiment,
2017-12-24 12.04.49

For some added texture, I added a few dots, using Texture Gems and some stamping to grunge it up a bit.

Life is Change Art Journal Page

  Life is Change 1

Hi Loves,

Tiare here.   Well, the weather is changing and we have gotten our first bit of cool here in GA.  I've had to turn on the heat for the past couple of days. The leaves are starting to change colors and this time of year reminds of how much, life is change, we renew, we start fresh, we let go etc. Seems like the appropriate time to celebrate that continuous change.  Here's what I did.

Life is Change 2

Now it's your turn.

All You Need is Love - Mango Gelatos Tag

2017-05-08 18.19.07

Don't you just love this time of year, when all the flowers are in full bloom?! It's very fitting that the Gelatos® Color Mango is bright and happy.  This is Rachel Kleinman here sharing a spring-filled tag.

2017-05-08 17.29.34

I started with a Gesso'd tag, mixed Glaze Medium with Mango Gelatos®, and painted that mixture through a diamond stencil from the Stencil 102 Collection

2017-05-08 17.32.44

2017-05-08 17.33.53

While the Glaze dried I worked on all the pieces of the tag. I colored this cloth ribbon with Passion Fruit Gelatos®, spritzed it with water, and mixed around the ribbon until the pigment bled through the cloth.

2017-05-08 17.37.51

Then I started painting the paper flowers with Mango and Red Cherry Gelatos® using a wet paintbrush.

2017-05-08 17.43.20

2017-05-08 17.47.43

I wanted to add some 'cool' toned colors so I used Snow Cone Gelatos® with a Stencil 102 stencil. I love how great the Snow Cone looks against the cloth ribbon!

2017-05-08 17.52.34

Finally, it was time to put all the pieces together! I attached the paper flowers and the quote with Gel Medium. I also die cut some flowers from watercolor paper that I had previously used the Color Fizz tablets on.

2017-05-08 18.19.26
2017-05-08 18.19.26

Of course I added the final touch of Glass Bead Glitter Gel to the flowers!

2017-05-08 18.19.07

Thanks for joining me and enjoy some creative time!
