Passion Fruit Mosaic Page by Rachel

2017-02-25 12.27.40

I hope you are loving all the pink on the Design Memory Craft blog this month! This is Rachel Kleinman to continue with the happy color, specifically the Gelatos® Color of the Week: Passion Fruit.  Maybe you can tell I used quite a lot of pink Gelatos® on this journal page... couldn't help myself :)

2017-02-24 20.42.42

I started with a gesso'd page and drew in squares with Gelatos® Strawberry, Watermelon, Guava, Passion Fruit, and Blood Orange. I used a paintbrush with water to break down the pigments and paint in the squares. I love the smooth matte look of blended Gelatos®, it made for a gorgeous mosaic spread!

2017-02-24 21.36.10

Next, I added some small simple doodles throughout the page. I drew thin lines with a Black Paper Crafter Crayon™, thick lines with a Pink Madder Stamper's Big Brush Pen, circles with the Metallic Gold Pitt Pen and then just smeared some Pearl Texture Luxe™ with my finger.

2017-02-25 11.37.28

My favorite way to use the Glaze medium is to mix it with Gelatos® and apply it through a stencil. Here I mixed Glaze with chopped up Passion Fruit Gelatos® and the Mixed Media 102 Stencil. Now time to let everything dry completely!

2017-02-25 11.41.06

Gelatos® are so versatile... don't forget they work as a great water color, too! You can vary the strength of the color by adding more water to lighten it and less water to keep it more opaque. Here I scribbled some Black Licorice Gelatos® on my craft mat and mixed up the pigment with a wet paintbrush. Then I used the brush to flick splatters of black throughout my journal page.

2017-02-25 12.11.20

Finally, the last step! The White Stamper's Big Brush Pen was traced through this little flower stencil from the Scandinavian Stencil Collection. Lastly I added some writing with a Black Pitt Pen. I've been listening to The Beauty and the Beast soundtrack, so of course I had to add some lyrics to this!

Just to say, "Hello."

Hello Card Close Up

Hi Loves. Tiare here.  I'm feeling like spreading a little happy these days and what a simple way to do so by sending a handmade card, just because!

Grab your Gelatos® Stardust and let's create.  Here's what I did.

Hello Card 1

Spread Gesso on card base and an  extra piece of paper.   Color extra piece of paper with Gelatos® Stardust, allow to dry and punch or die- cut mini flowers.

Hello Card 2

Next, use Stamper’s Big Brush Pens:  Pink Madden # 129,Maganese Violet # 160 to create your background.  Draw color onto craft sheet, spritz with water and drag the card base through the  color.  Do this one color at a time.

Hello Card 3

Use Stamper’s Big Brush Pens:  Black #199 to add color on a fun circle stamp.  Stamp image.  Big Brush Pens are perfect for stamping.

Hello Card 4

Write sentiment on a small piece of paper using Journaling Pitt®Artist Pens Medium Nib Black #199.  Use Stamper’s Big Brush Pens:  Black #199 to ink the edge of the sentiment block.   Adhere with pop dots and add flowers around sentiments, pop up a few with pop dots as well.

Hello Card Fin with Watermark

Finish card by scribbling around page using Texture Gems™ Silver  and use to make flower centers as well.  Lastly, add a small piece of twine tied in a bow.

Tada!

"Dream Big" Lamp Makeover with New Gelatos Iridescents

Hey friends!  Adrianne Surian here with you today to share a home decor makeover using the new Gelatos® Iridescents, featuring the color of the week: Stardust!

Lamp Makeover 1 WM

I have a lamp at my desk that has needed an update for a while now.  It was plain wood when I bought it, and when chevron and distressing were all the rage, I painted it.  I loved it for a while, but now my style is much brighter and bolder - especially in my work space!  So it was time for a makeover.

Lamp Makeover 7

I used some Essential Textural Accents, the "dream big" stencil from the 303 Mixed Media Stencil Collection, and some brand new Design· Memory· Craft® products - Ice Layers Stencils, and Gelatos Iridescents with shimmery hues.

Lamp Makeover 8

To begin, I mixed Gesso with a small amount of Gelatos® in the color Galaxy.  If un-tinted, Gesso goes on white.  I wanted a hint of color for my background, and Gesso provided great coverage over the old paint job.  (I taped off the areas of the lamp I wanted to protect with painter's tape as well - because I know myself, and I can get a little messy!)

Lamp Makeover 10

Once my Gesso was dry, I cut apart the Arrow Ice Layers Stencils, which are heavy-duty self adhesive stencils.  I used them in different directions with the three colors in this project: Stardust, Galaxy, and Blue Moon.  Each color was mixed with a small amount of Gel Medium, and the adhesive backside made it easy to get nice clean edges!

Next, I stenciled "dream big" onto the front panel of the lamp using Galaxy and Stardust, mixed with Gel Medium.  Allow each layer to dry before moving on to the next, and don't be nervous to try overlapping shapes and words!

Lamp Makeover 11

When I was happy with my stenciling, I mixed a bit of Glaze with Stardust Gelatos, and brushed a light coat in random areas on each side of the lamp.  This helps to highlight the pink tones without being too much pink!

Lamp Makeover 12

Finally, I added a small arrow accent to the corner of the lampshade as well, bringing a finishing touch of Stardust Gelatos (mixed with Gel Medium) to tie the design together.  If you haven't tried using Gelatos mixed with Gel Medium on fabric surfaces yet, it's easy to do!  It's no different than using textural accents on paper and other flat surfaces.

Lamp Makeover 4 WM

The finished piece has its home right next to me as I type this, and the inspirational message and bright colors really add cheer to my work space.  The "dream big" message is also great for kids' bedrooms (or kids at heart)!

Thanks for joining me today for this home decor makeover!  Are there any pieces in your home that could use a makeover?  Leave a comment below if this project inspires you!

DIY Glitter Stickers

Ilovestickers

Hi! It's Laura Bray and today I want to talk stickers. I'm a child of the 1980's and I collected stickers. Every week, I would walk to the store (by myself, crossing two busy streets...my how times have changed!) and would purchase new stickers for my collections. Glitter stickers were always a huge favorite.  Today I'm going to show you how to make glittery stickers of your own using the new line of Iridescent Gelatos®. This would be a great project for tweens.

Love. Love. Love.

2017-02-09 21.02.29

Hello! It's Rachel here to help get you in the LOVING spirit! I'm celebrating Valentine's Day in my art journal with the vivid pink Bubble Gum Gelatos®. It's also perfect that Design Memory Craft has this 'love' stencil that I used throughout the entire page.

2017-02-09 21.02.40

The background of the page was all about adding texture. I used a variety of Mixed Media Stencils with Guava, Boysenberry, Kiwi, and Strawberry Gelatos®, Whipped Spackle, and Pearl Texture Luxe™. Once my texture layer was all dry, I painted hearts with a brush and Chalkboard Paint. That's when I realized I needed to cover up the background... I put Gesso everywhere except inside the hearts, then colored a very thin layer of Guava Gelatos® on top.

2017-02-09 21.02.54-2

The beauty of art journaling is that there are no rules! If you don't like something, change it! I'm really glad I changed my original plan, because I like the finished product so much more. To include the gorgeous Bubble Gum Gelatos®, I mixed the Gelatos® with Glaze gel and painted the mixture inside the hearts. I also did very thin 'scrapes' of Bubble Gum pigment over the page, which helps highlight the hidden textures.

2017-02-09 21.03.04

I love the nautical preppy color combination of navy and pink, so I used the Boysenberry Gelatos® to fill in the 'love' stencil throughout the page. I finished it off with Glass Bead Glitter Gel on top of the letters and inside the hearts.

Thanks for joining me, and I hope you get crafty and artsy for Valentine's Day this weekend! I put together a process video, which you can watch here!
