We have finally welcomed the winter season into our lives and I created a wintry art journal page to celebrate. Rachel Kleinman joining you today to share this shimmery snowy page featuring our Gelatos® Color of the Week, Metallic Blueberry!
The first step to all my art journal pages is a coat of Gesso. Once that dried I colored the pages with Gelatos® Aqua Dolce and Silver Ice, which I blended with a baby wipe. The snowflakes were created by coating a page of watercolor paper with Metallic Blueberry Gelatos®, then using snowflake dies to punch out the shapes. I adhered the snowflakes with Gel Medium and let it dry overnight.
I love to add texture to canvases and journal pages by adhering random chunky materials. Here I glued cardboard, burlap, lace ribbon, and buttons to my pages using Gel Medium. Then I painted over all those objects with Gesso. I do this so I can add more color later on top of the white surface.
While the Gesso is drying, I colored the tag insert with Raspberry and Metallic Icing Gelatos®. I also painted on some Asphalt Texture which I mixed with Gel Medium to make sure it stuck good and well on that tag!
Once the gesso dried, I colored a very thick layer of Raspberry Gelatos® and Metallic Blueberry Gelatos® just along the edges of the page. Then I sprayed a generous amount of water on top, and tilted the art journal to let the water and pigment run all the way down the page.
I repeated that step to both edges of my page and let it dry. Then I wrote in a Robert Frost quote with Black Aquarelle Pencils that I traced with water. I also included some arrow stencils with Silver Texture Luxe paste.
"The way a crow shook down on me, the dust of snow from a hemlock tree, has given my heart a change of mood, and saved some part of a day I had rued." - Robert Frost
Wishing everyone a beautiful, peaceful winter and a very Happy New Year!!
