Patriotic Layout by Tonya Gibbs

We recently celebrated our Independence Day here in the USA.  I love to see everyone dressed in their red, white & blue to show their patriotism. My Sister In-law shared this photo of her and her beautiful daughter.  Since my niece is all dolled up like a pageant queen, I wanted my layout to resemble a parade float.   The colors needed to be rich and vibrant, but feminine and soft, so I turned to my stash of Gelatos®. Their creamy texture and rich pigments were just what I needed to make this layout pop!

When I use Gelatos® I'm often asked these two questions:

"What are Gelatos®?"
Gelatos® are compact, acid-free, lightfast (won't fade) and odorless pigment sticks that glide on creamy smooth for vibrant color and coverage.  All Gelatos® blend easily with or without water.  At full strength, they are opaque and can be blended to transparent tints with water.  Use them to add color and sheen to any surface including paper, canvas, chipboard, wood, glass, ceramic and many others!

"What is the difference between the Gelatos® and the Gelatos® Double Scoops?"
Gelatos® Double Scoops® are the exact same product as Gelatos® only twice the size. Which means you have twice as much product for playing.

I love how Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft®  has taken the guess work out of choosing colors with their Mix & Match color system. Choose a color set that inspires you. Choose a medium. Mix & Match as you create. Color coordinated palettes give you the freedom to design your project knowing the colors & mediums will work beautifully together.

In today's project, I Mixed & Matched Gelatos® with the Stamper's Big Brush Artist Pens.  I used the Gelatos® Double Scoop® Red Cherry to color my flag stripes, and flowers. LOOK at all that yummy texture and color.  I chose the Boysenberry Gelatos® to color up the star background, and the Flowering Branch die-cut.  The Stamper's Big Brush Artist Pen in May Green #170 was used to finish off the stems.  My title was stamped using the Stamper's Big Brush Artist Pen in Deep Scarlet Red #219, and to color the Lacy Dots Border die under the title.

I really wanted my design elements to pop, so I added them to kraft colored cardstock.  The edges were vignette with the Gelatos® Double Scoops® in Chocolate and Gelatos® Double Scoops® in Champagne.   For added texture I used the Whipped Spackle Textural accents with the "Mini Art Is" stencil from The Crafter's Workshop. Splatters of diluted Gelatos® Silver  were then added for extra texture and sparkle.

I've prepared a process video of me creating the layout.

I am having the best time finding new ways to create with my Gelatos®.  There are so many wonderful uses for them.  Leave me a comment and let me know how you create with your Gelatos®.  I would love to read your input.

Have you had a chance to participate in the July Monthly challenge with Mou?  If not here is the link to the post with all the details!  This month's challenge is to create something you have never done before.  If you haven't experimented with the Gelatos® take advantage of this challenge to try them out!

Thanks for stopping in today,

Tonya Gibbs
