Accordian Art with Jen Matott

I have a little mixed media accordian book here to share with you!  It's super easy to make and would make the cutest gift for someone artsy!  Here's a peek at how I made this lovely reminder why art is awesome!

P1000869I started with a 3" x 3" white chipboard base (you will need 2 of them).  I used a dotted stencil (this one is from UmWow Studios) and spread Textural Accents Whipped Spackle through it pretty thickly.

P1000870Look at that depth... so awesome!  Once it dries, I used Design Memory Craft Gelatos® in Banana from the 50's Diner Designer Color Set, Gelatos® Double Scoop® Color - Green Tea, and Gelatos® Double Scoop® Color - Bubble Gum  to apply color to the texture.  I smoothed with my finger to blend and soften.

P1000873For the accordian part, I cut two pieces of paper 2 3/4" x 11".  One is vellum and the other is watercolor paper or a thick cardstock.  Before cutting the vellum to size, I printed the quote on the paper first with my printer.  Before folding, add Gelatos® in Bubble Gum, Snow Cone and Banana to create the color that shows through the vellum.  Fold both papers together so that it's even and fits well.

I stapled the ends together to create more texture but also keep sheets adhered without any adhesive.  Glue both ends on the backside and adhere to the boards.  I closed it up and put it under a book to allow to dry properly and the folds will stay nice.  Once dry, I can display it or give as a gift!

P1000871These are so fun to make and can use up some of your scrap cardboard or thicker papers!  Have fun with this and we'd love to see your art on our Facebook page!

Dear Jen, Our son is an astrophysicist. I will absolutely love making something like this for him. I am not nearly as talented as you are, so there will be a few (many) changes, but I know it will make him smile. Thank you. Dee

Lisa, your tag is awesome! I love, love, love the beautiful colors and textures you chose, as well as the way you put them together. I opened an email today from Faber-Castell about the Ustream Class on Wed., May 27, 2015. I watched the DIY All Occasion Party Banner and made a comment to be entered in the giveaway. The demonstrator (I couldn't find her name anywhere) said that if we comment on the blog we have a chance at winning the grand prize. I couldn't find a link to your blog anywhere on the Ustream page. I went to Faber-Castell website and couldn't find anywhere to write a comment. I went through the Ustream video several times to find out how to get to the page where I was to leave a comment. FINALLY, I discovered that Faber-Castell has a blog. I've looked throughout this blog and couldn't find a place to leave a comment about joining you for the Ustream class on May 27th. When I browsed through the site, the sections are not dated so I had to keep searching. At last I settled on writing to you here on your texture tag demo. Where should I leave a comment to register for the grand prize? Thank you!
