Beach Layout by Tonya Gibbs
Hi everyone, I'm super excited today to bring you my first post with Faber Castell Design Memory Craft®. I seriously screamed when I saw my name on the list with all the other talented ladies. I think I woke up everyone in my house that morning! I've enjoyed using these products for years, and consider this a huge honor!
Summer is in FULL swing here in the Sunshine State, Florida - USA. Everyone escapes this tropical heat by heading to the beach! So in celebration of summer, I've created a beach layout with lots of techniques using the New Glass Bead Glitter Gel, Whipped Spackle, Gel Medium, Gelatos®, Gelatos® Double Scoop® and Stamper's Big Brush Artist Pens. The MIX & MATCH system from Faber-Castell makes designing with COLOR simple. They take all the guess work out of what goes with what. Just Choose a color set, a medium, and start creating with confidence that everything will work beautifully together.
I've prepared a process video showing you how to put this layout together, complete with a voice over explaining each technique. I'm also including some close up photos below, for added details.
This was the first time I have worked with the Glass Bead Glitter Gel, and I have to say I LOVE IT! Look at the texture in this water, and in person this really sparkles! Tip - don't heat the Gel with your heat gun, allow it to dry on its own or it may bubble. It doesn't take it long to dry naturally, and remember a small amount goes a long way. I painted the gel over my Gelatos® it went on white, and dried clear with a blue green sparkle. Below is a close up of the Glass Bead Glitter Gel look at all this yummy texture and sparkle. I then added the Whipped Spackle to create waves in the water.
For the Cattails I decided to draw them useing my Stamper’s Big Brush Artist Pens in May Green #170 and Dark Sepia #175 . I love that this made my layout look more like a painting. The Gelatos® Double Scoop® in Butterscotch was mixed with the Whipped Spackle, and Gel Medium to create the mounds of sand and shells at the base of the fence, and the cattails. This technique added a realistic look with a lot of texture and dimension.
I love how the buckled paper, just adds additional texture to this layout. It makes my beach sand look naturally uneven.
I hope you have learned some new techniques.

In 2004, I was bitten hard by the paper crafting bug, and haven't looked back since. I am a versatile artist, and love experimenting with new techniques, styles, and mediums. Because of this, I would consider my personal style to be eclectic. I can do it all - from Shabby Chic to Grunge, digital to paper crafting, mixed media to altered art. I enjoy the challenge of experimenting outside my comfort zone. I am a member of Marion Smith Designs Creative Team, A creative team member for Die-Namites Dies, and a blogger/admin for WeAreArtsyAddicts.blogspot.com. I have guest designed for Teresa Collins Designs, 7Gypsies, Tattered Angels, and Canvas Corp. I love hanging out on Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Scrapbook.com and Youtube. I also teach monthly Ustream classes on the first Monday of each month. I hope you can stop by my blog and visit a while!
