Every year I create a journal for the Sketchbook Project from the Brooklyn Art Library. It's a traveling art show of art journals! You can choose your own theme based on a variety of starting topics they give you. Mine was based on "Borders and Lines" but I decided to title it "In Certain Circles..." This is the cover of the book.
I used the Textural Accents Gel Medium to adhere ledger and tissue paper to the cover. I then stamped on the cover with circle stamps (Studio Calico) and Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft® Stamper's Big Brush Pen in Black. Some punched circles from sheet music were added as well. Once all of the papers dried, I started coloring with Blueberry Gelatos®, Metallic Blueberry Gelatos® and Boysenberry Gelatos®.
I cut a window using a craft knife tool in a pie chart sort of shape. I traced a circle and then cut it in sections. Using a masked fancy frame shape, I sprayed with a Gelatos® Color spray made with the Gelatos® Mist Making Tool kit and Black Licorice and Boysenberry Gelatos® Colors.
Textural Accents Whipped Spackle was applied through a dotted stencil with a palette knife to create texture and more circles!
Mango, Tangerine, and Bubble Gum Gelatos® Colors were added through the circle stencil to create a contrast of warm colors against the cool colors.
I am so happy with how this book cover turned out and wish I could have kept it for myself but hope others are drawn to pulling it off the shelves at the Brooklyn Art Library and looking through my work of art! I will go into detail with each page in other blog posts here using Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft® products!
