Art Journal Page with Jen Matott

Hi creative friends!  I am so very excited to see the new products that Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft® has released.  One of them is full of my artwork!  In fact, I designed the art and instruction booklet photos/ write up for this kit!

It is the second one that I've designed for  them and I'm thrilled with how it looks!  WOW!  I can't wait for you to be able to get your hands on this kit.  In the process, I had to cut a couple pages out due to space and materials that were going to be included.  So, I wanted to share one of those pages that didn't make the cut with you!

For this page, I started with a primed canvas page (it was already primed but you could use our Textural Accents Gesso to prime a natural canvas page) and stamped the radial shape using the Stamper's Big Brush Pen in black.

I used the Gelatos® Colors in Banana (from the 50's Diner set), Bubble Gum, Mango, Margarita and Snow Cone (from the Tropical set) mixed with some Textural Accents Gel Medium in a paint palette.  I painted some of the mixture over the stamped images.  The Gel Medium gives the color translucency while also giving it a bit of texture.

JustBepagedetails3Once the color was dry, I used dotted drywall tape and Black Licorice Gelatos® with the dauber tool to create dots.

JustBepagedetailshot1Next, I added Gelatos®in Gold Champagne at the top off the page.  I applied it fairly thick and then used the dropper tool to drip water down the page.

JustBepagedetailshot3I just continued to add water to the page until I got the gold to drip all the way down.
Once it dried, it left a gold shimmer that catches the light and gives it a fun effect.

I added Textural Accents Whipped Spackle through the same dotted drywall tape for some white textured dots on the page.

Finally, I painted the Textural Accents Chalkboard Paint over a shipping tag and allowed it to dry (it dries super fast!). Once dry, I drew a banner and chalkboard font message with a PITT® Pastel Pencil in white. The chalky pastel pencil is perfect on the chalkboard paint!

Because it was going on a page that might rub against another page, I added a thin coat of Textural Accent Glaze over the entire tag.  It gives it a shiny finish. If you wanted a matte finish, the Gel Medium might have been a different option.

I really liked this page and ended up hanging it in my art room!  The Textural Accents mediums are awesome!

What a great combo of products and techniques you have used to create your page Jen - LOVE IT!!!

Awesome page! Always love your work. I like how you let the gold drip down. And the little bit of chalkboard. My stamp store is sold out of the chalkboard paint so I am waiting for the next shipment. Thanks for sharing.

Gorgeous and fabulous! Can't believe it didn't make the cut but I'm so happy you shared it with us and hung it up in your craft room because it's gorgeous and super inspiring! :)

My favorite is coconut macaroon. I am SO excited about this new set of Gelatos. I LOVE pastels colors, and although I love all the Gelato colors, I am excited to see these soft, pastel colors that I can use with all my shabby chic projects. Thank you for the chance to win them!
