Watercolor Bookmarks
Hello everyone, hope my Zendoodle project inspired you all enough to pick up a pen and some colors!
..if not I am sure today's project will!
Often I hear aspiring artists mention how intimidating it is to stare at an empty piece of white canvas or paper , how it scares them from applying any color and of course the dreaded fear of 'ruining their paper'..and almost always I tell them to consider it a happy accident and move on instead of stepping back from color itself.
But then, sometimes, the cost of materials is in itself a deal braker, so I usually advise newbies to this hobby to start small. ..you don't need a huge full size sheet of paper to create something beautiful, even a tiny little piece of paper is enough to create a masterpiece!
And bookmarks are one of them..
Here is a step by step tutorial to show you how simple these are to do...
1-Dampen a small area with a wet brush and then pick up the colors directly from the pencils and apply...yes... you can use water with the pastel pencils and the colors turn out just as vibrant!
2- Using the Pitt Pastel pencil in blue and white , color in the blue eggs and go over the nest with brown and black Pastels and black Pitt Artist pens, and watercolor pencils for the greens.
3- Do the same with the floral bookmark by going over the initial wash with yet another darker one and add the greens and yellows.
4- Add highlights to the blue eggs with a white pastel pencil and add darks as needed under the nest with a brown and black pastel pencil
Add a sentiment and a ribbon..
...........and VOILA!

Swarup M. I am a self taught watercolorist and a trained textile designer . Over the last 20 years I have learned how to blend them both and bring that into my Papercrafting. I have been scrapbooking and card making for more than a decade now and immensely enjoy creating these mini masterpieces as I like to call them. I consider every card I create to be a miniature piece of art and usually favor a clean and simple style in my card making..and enjoy a bolder look in my Art journals. I enjoy photography and love to travel.
I blog as Sanketi and love sharing my work with others. I have been published in Designed to color magazine , Simply Handmade and Cards Magazines.
