Black Velvet Art

DMCGelato58

Jen Matott here again to share another mixed media project with you!  I love finding new materials to create my art on... I love dark surfaces for Faber- Castell Design Memory Craft's Gelatos and Metallic Gelatos to be used on.  They just come alive against the dark background!  Here I used a black velvet paper to create this journal page. This is nothing like those Elvis paintings!

I chose a mask in a bird shape that I had cut out of a printable shipping label that has adhesive on the back.  It allowed me to stick it on the velvet and color over and around it without holding it or worrying about it shifting.

I used Metallic Gelatos and the White Gelato to create a very vibrant and rich look.  The Metallics just vibrate on the surface and are so soft and brilliant.  Once I finished random marks I then added a circle stencil (sequin waste) and rubbed the Gelatos through it with my finger.

Here's a close up of the dots once I removed the mask sticker.  You can see the contrast between the black velvet and the metallic colors.  I think it is just amazing!   So if you are looking to create drama in your work, try using black velvet paper or a dark material with Gelatos!

    Congratulations Patty :)
FABULOUS cover & 1st page Jen!!!
I have participated in what we called a "Circle Journal" over here in Australia (they were actually small scrapbooks, 8x8 and 6x11) and it was FUN, we each set our themes and posted our journals off, then had a few weeks to get our entries done & posted off. Because "life" can get in the way, we had a monthly turn-around, so it took nearly a year and we all ended up with lots of special pages. For me, it was lovely to have work created by others to admire and enjoy, HIGHLY recommend it to you all to try, just remember to take lots of photos and ensure secure postage.
