Blank canvas...

 Hmmm...
do you ever look at white things and think "what could I do with this blank canvas?"
Or is it just me?
Hi bloggers Rita Barakat with a fun idea using Gelatos!
Start by drawing lines around the hat - Gelatos come in
color families so this makes chosing colors a snap!

And this is so easy your kids can help!

After you cover all surfaces spray with water and blend with a paint brush!

 Easy and fun!
A craft and a fashion statement!
How fabulous!

Mixed Media Canvas

Headshot1
Hi!  I'm back to share a mixed media canvas that I completed using Gelatos and Art GRIP Aquarelle pencils. The canvas is 12" x 16" large and pre-primed.  I used some tissue papers, sheet music and patterned paper scraps to create the collaged background.  Using gel medium, I adhered them first and then used blue and green Gelatos over top of them.  Using water, I blended them with the medium to create a soft look.

DMCcanvas1
Texture paste or modeling paste was added in a thin layer over parts of the collage.  I let it dry a bit and then stamped with a text rubber stamp and bubblewrap to create texture.  Once dry, I added a wash of gold Gelato over top to pick up details.

I used orange and yellow Aquarelle watercolor pencils to color some book papers and punched circles to add some contrast to the piece.

DMCcanvas21 Rub ons by Hambly Studios were added and a few other embellishments by Prima.  I used embroidery floss to stitch a branch onto the canvas by poking holes first to attach.

The final artwork is full of texture, color and fun details.  Here is another view:

Aquarelle pencils/gelato + water

Hi there, Mou Saha here with today's technique.

It's summer for most and many of us are preparing for a road trip. If you are into art journaling, you may want to pack a few gelatos and Art GRIP® Aquarelles with some watercolor paper or a sketchbook for your trip to document the journey as it happens. Then just add water and you are in business! I collected a few pieces of chipboard and watercolor paper and decided to make a quick cover for my trip journal. I used the 6"x6" Road Trip template from The Crafter's Workshop. Let me walk you through the steps.FCJuneTT1

Trace the template partly onto chipboard and partly onto watercolor paper.FCJuneTT2

Then cut the paper that shows into shape following the outline.FCJuneTT3

Use Art GRIP® Aquarelle pencils to color in the right edge of the shaped page.FCJuneTT4

Now, add water with a brush or spritz with a mister.FCJuneTT5

Repeat the same with gelatos on the chipboard piece and blend with water.FCJuneTT6

Now, you can leave the cover as is or take it one step further with stamps. I inked up a map and car stamp using several Stamper's Big Brush Markers and stamped onto the chipboard.FCJuneTT7
FCJuneTT8

You can add as many pages as you wish and bind it any way you want to get your trip journal ready. Have a fun summer :)

Faux Watercolor Technique with Jill Foster

Hi everyone! Jill Foster here with a faux watercolor technique.  It's easy to get the look of a watercolor painting with your favorite Design Memory Craft Products!  Here's a look at two cards featuring this technique:Faux Watercolor
Faux Watercolor IB Anika

1.  Color stamp using Stamper's Big Brush Markers. I used brush stroke stamps by Penny Black.  They are perfect to create this look. Color heavily and work quickly.
2.  Spritz stamp lightly with water.  Stamp onto heavy cardstock.
3.  Trace around stamped image lightly and imperfectly with fine-tipped black PITT® Artist Pen.  You can also add shading to the interior of the stamped image, for example, I added dots to the center of the sunflowers.
4.  Add additional shading to stamped images using Stamper's Big Brush Markers.  Work in small sections and blend with fingertip.
5.  Color with Stamper's Big Brush Marker onto acrylic block.  Spritz with water.  Dip paint brush into ink and flick onto stamped image.
6.  Now this simple step will add some major "wow factor" to your image:  Color along one side of your stamped image using the grey Pastel Pencil.  Blend lightly with fingertip.

Happy stamping!

Dream, in pinks and browns...

Hi guys! Rita Barakat  here with a canvas tag submitted for your approval...
(Hmm having a "Twilight Zone" flashback!)
I am really loving canvas lately, so here is a tag that I covered with Gesso and colored with Faber-Castell pencils. I know its hard to see but it is a very subtle pale pink, very pretty. I embossed the word "Dream" and colored it in with the pencils, first pink then brown.

A close up. I added the key - in case this key might unlock your dreams...

A side view. A tag is a great way to try out new techniques, have you tried canvas?
I would love to see your canvas tags!!

Color Embossing

Hi!  Jen Matott here for a fun Technique Tuesday.  I have a Cuttlebug from Provocraft and LOTS of texture embossing folders.  I love the look of added textures to papers just by adding designs that pop out.  I thought it might be fun to add a bit of color to the textures.  Gelatos are the perfect media to add to the embossing folders.

If you have a Cuttlebug or any of the press die cutters, this will work.  If you don't, you can still try it out using a rolling pin over a texture plate.

TT6:701
Here I rubbed some of the blues over the raised side of the folder.

TT6:704
Spritz the paper lightly before putting into the folder.

TT6:705 Run through the machine.

TT6:707

The colors are intense and distressed!  I love the look!
TT6:708 The Gelatos are easy to clean off the plate but before I do that, I took a "ghost" image by running it through with a couple more pieces of paper.  Each time it was lighter but still cool!

TT6:710
To clean off the plate, I spray with water and wipe with a course rag.  If any residue is left, soak in soapy water and use an old toothbrush to remove any color stuck in the corners.

TT6:712

Here's my journal page that I used the color embossed paper on.  I added color to the collaged background with Gelatos and my colored glazes that I shared a few posts ago.  I colored gel medium with Gelatos to create a translucent color.
TT6:71

TT6:72
I hope you were inspired to use your embossing tools a little differently and add color to the textures!
